Some organizations minimize their "outmoded" names and instead go just by their initials. Examples:

United Negro College Fund >>> UNCF source
Kentucky Fried Chicken >>> KFC source
American Association of Retired Persons >>> AARP source
Conservative Baptist Association of America >>> CBAmerica

I just wonder why a bunch of white guys would have any interest or concern about what a black women's organization calls itself.

The people of color are welcome to call themselves by names ("Negro"), while at the same time condemning whites who use the same word! That sounds to me like discrimination in the use of language! (I am NOT saying the NCNW is doing this! Just making an observation from the 57 years of life I have seen.)

By the way, as of now I object to being called "white", since my skin color is much closer to the color called "flesh" or maybe/sometimes "peach". Can we "Peaches" unite to demand a politically-correct change of what we are called?:laugh::laugh:

Actually, I would much prefer that a person's skin color had nothing to do with what people called him/her. I am Bill, not "that white man". My friend James is James, not "that black man". My friend Ruben is not "that redskin", but is Ruben. Get the picture? I have a feeling God sees us as people, not as "blacks" or "whites".

Bill gave an excellent answer in post # 9.

Personally, I have no problem what a group calls itself. But on the on the other hand, don't be upset, if I use that same term to identify you.

Same thing with a national group here in Central New York. The organization is called "ARC" which stands for "Association of Retarded Citizens" Yet, if I was to call one of the residents "retarded" I would be blasted for it.

That is why ARC, NAACP, Colored women, and ect should change their name.

Many years ago the Colored Methodist Church vote to change thee name to the Christian Methodist Church. At least they got it right.

(did you know that "CME" also stands for those faithful attenders who come every Christmas - Mothers Day - Easter  :D )
( a member of the local CME told me that!)

Sorry, but that doesn't cut it. When a group turns around terms within their own group that have been used as hateful, it is not the same as an outsider using them. You got no dog in this one, Salty.

    And then Magnetic Poles said:
But that IS the point! That comment reeks of "liberal-think" to me. If it is fine for person A to say something, then why is it wrong for person B to say it? And the reverse is also true. If it is wrong for A to say something, then why is it fine for B to say it? Isn't the word or phrase offensive no matter who says it? If so, then why is it okay for anybody to use the offensive word or phrase?

That is the thing that does not make any sense!

Think of it like this. You can call your brother a dummy, but anybody else best think twice.
