Mixed Race Life

On my job we have about a 75% workforce that is black. So, I interact with another race on a daily basis and consider many, if not all of them, my friends. :thumbsup:

 

We are ALL of ONE race-- the human race. Skin color or nationality don't matter to me as long as I can understand them.

 

Some blacks and hispanics at work~other than that there were none at the past 3 baptist congregations I was part of.

I grew up in a "Sundown Town"..not in Mississippi in the 50s but Missouri in the 70s~~maybe it accounts for my xenophobic ways:smilewinkgrin:

 

Honestly? Not many. The Eastern Shore isn't exactly known for its racial diversity.

We belong to a 9/12 group that was founded by a Hispanic couple and has several black and Hispanic members, and we have a little girl from our church who also works for us who is Hispanic and we call her our fifth daughter.

 

What if you can't "understand them" ?

 

Wow, Jon Marc. How profound and original. I'll have to remember that when I get my license renewed, although I can't remember seeing an "H" as an option on race. Also, when I filled out the census I did not see an "H" for a selection either...Maybe there are other races and the Gov't just hasn't come around to see the light like you have. Thanks for enlightening us! :flower:

 

I voted for rarely if ever, but I don't want that vote misconstrued for racism on my part. Even though our votes are anonymous.:laugh: I have just recently taken a new church (Sept. '09) and we have moved to the "whitest" town in America. There is not one non-caucasian who lives here. Not one non-caucasian goes to my children's school. It is really strange to me. That being said my church housed 150 evacuees for nearly two months in their FLC during Katrina who were all black and they had a wonderful experience from it on both sides. This town is not racist from what I can tell in any tangible way although I'm sure there are a small group of individuals who may hold racist views just as there are in any town.

 

Funny how that your post is coated with the white guilt apologetics.
White people have to be sure to include all of this mumbo jumbo because the majority of Americans tend to cry racism if statements such as yours are not prefaced with something like yours, "I don't want that vote misconstrued for racism on my part"...pathetic. :sleep:

You might want to let Him deal with that. You have a problem.

 

Similar to my church and the area we're in. It isn't that we wouldn't welcome minorities with open arms, it's just that there aren't any around here.

The only non-whites we have here are Mexican and Guatamalan migrant farm workers, and they keep to themselves so much that you never see them.

We're tried to start a ministry to reach out to them, but they're a very insular and isolated group.

The Amish, of course, are not another race, but their culture is so radically different from ours that it seems that way sometimes. We have a lot of Amish people here.

 

Given your previous posts on race I'll take an attack by you as a badge of honor!:smilewinkgrin:

And I have no guilt. I live in an all white town. I therefore do not interact with people of another race very often. I do not see how pointing that fact out is in any way an apologetic. Was your point in mentioning that,

an attempt to prove that you are not the racist you have already proven yourself to be?:sleep:

How can we communicate if we can't talk to one another and be understood? I don't know sign language. I said nothing about not "getting along with" someone I can't understand, but how can we communicate with different languages? When I was in England (for 2 years), I came across British people with such thick accents that they sounded as though they were speaking a foreign language. I had no idea what they were saying. I just prefer that my associates speak the same language as me since I'm too old (64) to want to learn every language I might come across in this country alone language.

If I moved to another country, I would expect to have to learn their language so that they could understand me and I them. I wouldn't expect everyone in that country to learn my language so that they could understand me, and I expect nothing less from people moving to this country.

 

It's a well known fact that posts are totally misunderstood very often, simply because you cannot see the non-verbal clues that tell what is truly being said, which is as important as WHAT is said!

This is demonstrated daily on this board, and this thread is a good example.

That being said, and after reading these replies, charges, counter-charges and counter-counter-charges, etc. I would venture to say that if I were a black that needed some serious help, of the posters on this thread, I would go to Cutter first .

Again, just from reading these posts, he is the only one that I would expect to drop what he's doing and give me help pronto, while at the same time chewing me out for not coming to him before I got into such a bind. Then, later, I strongly suspect he would get in contact with me to see if things are going OK, or if more assistance were needed.

Now would the others do so also? I'm sure you would, BUT you would be (again my interpretation of your posts) too anxious to solve my problem and give me all sorts of sympathy, advice and moral support, and then leave me to my own devices as you felt a great big surge of pride for your Godly deed!

Have I mis-interpreted some of your posts? Probably, but then all I have are your printed words to go by.

So all I wish to convey with this post is to be a little less quick to pull the trigger on a post you don't agree with!
