I've never heard of such a thing! This judge could save the community a lot of money and just appoint who she wants to win.

This sounds like something straight out of Orwell's "1984." The name of this provision is "FairVote" This goes along with Orwell since this provision is exactly the opposite of fair voting.

Keep in mind, everyone got six votes, not just Hispanic people. With that said, I still don't like this.

"The bilingual ballot lists each candidate across the top row — some of them twice if they have two party lines — and then the same candidates are listed five more times. In all, there are 114 levers; voters can flip any six. "

No doubt that when this is all over one of the losers will challenge the election on the basis that it was too complicated.

If you thought that punching out a chad or filling in a circle was difficult...

I think its a great idea! As long as the hispanics get more votes than any other group its a good idea! ;-)

Seems fuzzy thinking to me. If everyone can vote six times than there should be no change in the election if they can only vote once.

Remember the old saw, "Vote Early, Vote Often."

"Although the village of about 30,000 residents is nearly half Hispanic, no Latino had ever been elected to any of the six trustee seats, which until now were chosen in a conventional at-large election. Most voters were white, and white candidates always won."

Reading between the lines - Hispanics don't win because Hispanics don't vote.

There is no need for all this jurymandering.

The local Hispanic community simply needs to show up and vote.

Yes and have the privilage of voting more often. That is assuming that hispanics are voting for hispanic canidates can it be that the hispanics are voting for white canidates? Why doesn't this cross their mind?

    Not exactly.

Everyone in this particular neighborhood got 6 votes.

    Surrounding areas didn't.

For any judge to issue such a monumentally stupid ruling...I doubt much of anything ever crosses their mind. It's likely a vast wasteland.
