SPRING LAKE — A prominent Spring Lake church removed its cross Tuesday and has changed its name as part of a series of moves intended to make it more inclusive

C3Exchange, 225 E. Exchange, Spring Lake, was formerly known as Christ Community Church. The Rev. Ian Lawton, the church’s pastor, said the name change and removing the cross were designed to reflect the church’s diverse members.

“Our community has been a really open-minded community for some years now,” he said. “We’ve had a number of Muslim people, Jewish people, Buddhists, atheists. ... We’re catching up (to) ourselves.”

Wow. Thanks for sharing. That is an amazing move. :(

I am glad they removed "church" from the name and a "Cross" from their appearance. Obviously they have abandoned all pretense of being Christian.

First reaction was "wheat and tares". How much better off true Christianity would be if all of those masquerading as "christian" would just drop the nonsense.

    That day will come.

Heb 11:24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter,
Heb 11:25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.
Heb 11:26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.

They did the right thing by removing the cross and dropping "church" from their name. Whatever it is, it is no longer a church. :tear:

I hope this catches on. Social clubs don't need a cross.

Anyone know what 'flavor' of Christianity they considered themselves associated with? I couldn't find it on their website (although it is probably there somewhere) and I'm guessing it is (was) UCC or something similar.

Removing the Bible, I assume, was the first step that didn't make the news. :BangHead:

For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

What denomination does Christ Community Church belong to?

C3/CCC is an independent community, no longer affiliated with any denomination. It was formerly a member church of the Reformed Church in America, but became independent in 1995.

I guess even the RCA wasn't liberal enough for them.

One interesting thing about their sanctuary: They put a great deal of emphasis on having extremely comfortable seating for their folks.

    You know why?

    (wait for it...)

Because these guys don't stand for anything.

What do you call a church that has gone apostate? Certainly it is not the Body of Christ but some perversion of that reality. Why don't they just nail "Ichabod" to the door and be done with it?
