Illinois Attorney General Releases The Names Of All Authorized Gun Owners

Fellow gun owners should be highly concerned about this going on.

I live in IL. and this was the first I hear about this attack on gun owners.

At the end of September, the Associated Press had requested a list of people who were issued a card from the state police. But the police would not release the information saying it would be an invasion of personal privacy and could endanger the owner's safety.

What I can't find is, why was the AP requesting the info?

I've read the NYT article twice...and I still don't see the "news-worthiness." I can only assume the AP is doing a similar article.

Do they also publish the drivers license and veh registration lists? If not, why not?

When I was taking my conceal carry licensing class a few years ago, I was told that the AP and many newspapers have tried to get states to release the contact information for all conceal carry license holders under the pretext that it is a public record. The stated intention (with at least one Austin, Texas newspaper) is to warn the public of the people who are walking around with guns, as if we are itching to shoot anyone who annoys us.

Let's use their arguments against them and compel the AP to reveal all their sources.

Saw this article with further information on what is occurring in Illinois - between the show down between the police and Attorney General Lisa Madigan. Kind of makes me wonder if this is released, would cause more people to own guns. The list would identify those that do not own weapons in essence also.
