I left Southern Baptist churches when they started arguing over women being Pastors and music being contemporary and started using modern transliterations of the Bible.

So I didn't doubt for a minute that there could be a fight in the convention on such a topic. I bet there are those that would step forward and say "why not" - just like they did on Bible versions, on women Pastors and non-traditional music, all of which is to please "the world" and not to please the Lord.

The OP posted a falsehood (not deliberately, but passed on a rumor without properly vetting it).

She came back and apologized. That's good.

What's not good is to co-opt her thread (that shoudn't have been started anyway) and take pot-shots at the SBC for other issues (the "non-traditional music" one bugs the stew out of me).

The proper response would have been, "Whoops, my bad, sorry." And if you had any SBC complaints, to start them in a new thread.

This "I'm sorry, but..." negates the sincerity of your apology. Not to mention since your credibility took a hit from the get-go, there wasn't much point in slamming the SBC on here anyway.

It's easy to be fooled by a hoax. It's happened to me more that I would want to admit. Hoaxes have many unintended consequences, a big one is the loss of credibility of otherwise well intentioned people.

One good thing about this thread is that I now know officially that it is a hoax and can appropriately inform others who might inquire or comment.

Why on earth would you wonder if people in the SBC still want to be in it? Not all SBC churches are stupid, like not all IFB churches are stupid.

I go to my SBC church because they preach a solid gospel and it's a blessing on us and we want to be part of it. I don't appreciate someone knocking ALL SBC churches when there are decent ones, same as you wouldn't appreciate me knocking all IFB churches when there are decent ones of those too.
