Around 2 pm EST, there was an earthquake in Virginia that was felt all over the east coast. It was clearly felt here in WV. I hope we don't have any more aftershocks from it!

Democrats have already named the newly formed fault line--"Bush's Fault."

    Welcome to the West Coast!

What you felt, is common out on the west coast. Hope you are all okay. It sounds like it did more rattling of the minds and hearts than anything else. Still, it is not a pleasant wake- up to call to the frailty of the earth.

Try not to feel to secure, as quakes of this size has a number of good size aftershocks. BTW, they feel like quakes to me, not merely aftershocks!

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
All these [are] the beginning of sorrows.

I felt this one big time down here in the upstate of SC. I grew up with them in CA and went through the '89 Loma Prieta, but this still really shattered my nerves. I never liked them out on the West Coast, and I found out yesterday I don't like them any better out here on the East Coast! There was that same creepy "earthquake creak" going along with the shaking. The scariest thing is there's just no warning.

A few weeks back I was outside in the garden and something just struck me so weird - the heat was just a strange heat and there was an eerie stillness... I even posted on my FB that it reminded me of "earthquake weather" in CA. The next morning there was an , albeit very small, earthquake thirty miles from here. At one point I thought my dog was jumping up onto my front porch to come back inside - just one very small rattle, but when I looked she was still out in the yard. Then later I heard about the earthquake. That could have been the small one, not sure, because technically it was really too small to be felt, but in any event, I guess sometimes weather might be a clue for local ones. I've read differing views on gas build-up in the ground and other things having to do with that.

The bottom line, IMO, is more are on the way out here on the East Coast and I am not looking forward to it!

My daughter's at Liberty U, not far from the origin of the quake.

Some shaking was noted by many.

She was at the gym facility and said that people inside the building didn't feel a thing.

Actually Obama wanted the quake to be a 4.5 quake and the Republicans wanted a 5.9 quake. So they compromised at 5.9.

(I've since heard it was because Oprah was out jogging.)

Partial collapse of the roof of a grocery store here. Several older buildings were damaged.

National Cathedral damaged in DC as was the Washington Monument. One or more apartment buildings condemned and will be razed. Other damage around the area of N. VA, DC and MD.

House shook, lots of noise but no damage.

We had a few hours of extreme thunder, strike lightning, and shaking of entire house in Eastern Ontario, Canada. I haven't seen any physical damage, but then, I haven't been outdoors yet.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Doubtless Pat Robertson will think it's because people are being at least slightly homos*xual on the East Coast. We don't have earthquakes in the UK which means we can't be as naughty as y'all, eh, Pat?
