Allowing, of course, means the US still has sovereignty.
Not when you give it up. I seriously doubt that the rancher whose land they land on feels like he is still under his own sovereign nation. It is true as long as we have the power we can take it back we can regain it but as to date we have surrendered to another country.

Did anyone bother reading

this in the article's fourth paragraph?

a Mexican government official confirmed that Mexican military helicopters have permission to use Texas as a staging ground for missions into Mexico to fight drug traffickers.
my bold.

This is the kind of stuff allies do for each other. I read about these operations in another paper.

Further, does the US loose sovereignty when HM QEII flies in on a RAF plane? Did we loose sovereignty when the West German Luftwaffe had a training wing in Texas? (The WGL was flying US fighters and trained their pilots in the wide open spaces of Texas. There were enough pilots being trained for the Germans to set up a permanent party on a USAF air base. I want to say it was Lackland but I could be wrong.)

We have lost our sovereignty.
Let them land on your property unescorted with their guns.

We didn't escort the Germans and I doubt we escort HM's plane.

In the article I read (not the one cited above), it seemed the Mexicans flew out of USAF Air Bases not the Flying R's east 40. I also assume the USAF is fully cognizant of the Mexicans' flight planes.

IOW, this is hardly a replay of Villa's raid.

Just like the US Air Force in Germany. We must follow the laws and regualtions of Germany IAW the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) Anotherwards they maintain their soverignty as the U.S. are there as guests.
and that also means we are NOT occuping Germany.

If I remember correctly, one example is that non-esentinal military training flights are not permitted to take off or land on Sundays.

That sounds pretty much like what we and the Mexicans are doing. The two governments have signed agreements dealing with the various issues at hand. Did we violate Italian sovereignty when our planes operated out of Italian bases during the Balkan operations?

As for American drone flights, they are flown with Mexican law enforcement officials in the control room. IOW, they are joint operations.

Hey FAL...

...Did that particular Mexican gunship have "missile lock" on you home? If that were the case, I can understand the rationale behind your arguments in this post.

If there was no "missile lock" then it's time to get a grip. Like one comment said. Mexico and America have signed agreements and have a MOU permitting each other to use our countries for staging areas to fight against drug cartels!

You have heard of the cartels, haven't you? :BangHead:

That means the US is still sovereign.

Cooperation among allies in fighting drug traffickers is a good thing. We both benefit. It is hardly a surrender of sovereignty.

Like I said we have given up our sovereignty. :BangHead: If they were escorted it would be different. :BangHead: Get a grip on it.

So you believe that when the U.S. gave permission to Mexico to fly over a particular portion of U.S. airspace that the U.S. gave up it's soverign authority?

Does a parent give up parental authority when giving permission to a child to stay up a half hour past bedtime?

Or is authority actually being exercised by giving permission?

This, of course, is the point. The very fact that the US gave permission proves her sovereignty.

The only way the U.S. would be giving up their sovereignty would be if Mexico did not have permission, and the U.S. was unable to do anything to stop them.

Yes that is what the US did. The child analogy does not apply as Mexico is not our child. If you tell a neighbor that they have control as to what they do with your child would be a better analogy since you then give up your sovereignty over your child.

So what would happen if a Mexican farmer tried to shoot down a US helicopter in Mexican air space?

Oh man, is this another border situation where freeatlast is advocating "shoot first, ask questions later?" He seems to be trigger happy. (I can't see his posts because he's on IGNORE.)

So if you send your child next door for the afternoon and instruct your neighbor that they may put your child in a five minute time out if he misbehaves...

Then you no longer have parental authority over your child?

You can't go over and tell your neighbor that you want your child to come home for a nap?

You can't send homework over to the neighbors for your child to do?

Really???
