    I recently heard a well known preacher say that he respects homosexuals, as there are some who attend* his mega church.
    In addition, he would consider attending a homosexual marriage.

    So here are the two questions:

    1) Do you respect homosexuals
    2) would you attend a homosexual wedding?

    1) I respect homosexuals as I do all sinners.. *
    2) no, as a minister, I could not attend a homosexual wedding as it would appear I was condoning it.


    * the one type of sinner I least respect is the Gossip that spends their time pointing out the sins of others.. (including homosexuality)

    I do not respect homosexuals as homosexuals but as people. I would not attend a homosexual "wedding".

    As it is common to be respectful of them as people, yes; but conscience cannot allow me to be repectful of the lifestyle.

    But is that possible? Would that be similar to saying that I respect Hitler as a person, but not as one who committed genocide?

    But back to the OP - do we/should we treat a homosexual any different than a "normal person" What do we do/not do in regards to respect of a homosexual?

    Do we use the same standards for other sins, such as lust, gluttony, greed, laziness, wrath, envy, pride, and of course gossip.:1_grouphug:

    Oh, come on, there is a big difference between homosexuality and genocide. It is not even appropriate to invoke Hitler here. One involves consensual acts. The other is mass murder.

    This is just another way of saying one tolerates homosexuality.

    No, I do not tolerate homosexuality.

    No I don't have respect for anyone that commit a willful act of fornication, whether it be between a man and a woman, a man and man, or woman and woman!

    Homosexuality is a sin. It doesn't matter if the sin is committed between same-sex couples in legally approved civil unions or state approved marriage. You can dress it up in worldly approvals, but it is no less an abomination/anathema against the Word of God!

    There are those who believe that the church should coddle those in this realm of sin, but, in the end, God will "smote" the sinners and their sin just like He did with Sodom and Gommorah!

    As for attending a homosexual wedding, I would have to respectfully decline. To attend such an event, as a believer, could be, or would be misconstrued by others as lending support of this form of sin, and I would definitely not want to give the world the impression that I supported such an act! :tear:

    I am in complete agreement with everything you posted, but one little question.

    What about "does God love sinners, but not the sin"? If this be true(I for one do believe this way), then aren't we to love homosexuals(and with love comes respect, too)?

    So I am kinda in limbo.... I do love the homosexuals' souls, but hate their flesh. Meaning, I have a desire for them to see that their lifestyles are contrary to what God purposed them for(henceforth an abomination in His sight), and that they would seek for His mercy and Grace. But, they can not do this while in that kind of lifestyle. I would like your imput on what I asked you, plus what I just posted. I love you Brother Paul!!!

    I have not posted in a long time, but could not let this one go. Your point is well taken, and all boils down to how we as sinful beings put sin in an order of best to worst. In our particular culture, we put sexual sin, drinking, and other vice habits at the top. We turn right around as "good church members" and stuff our fat guts at church pot lucks, talking about others while we are stuffing our face (called gossip). We also, as upstanding "male church leaders" in particular, commit sexual sin daily by out gazes and thoughts. On top of that, laziness in work for the Lord is rampant, as is evidenced by participation in outreach.

    With that said, we then have the gall to point fingers at others that commit sins that are on the top of our man made ladder.

    Pride is another one we are famous at hiding. How many local church members have you seen get their feathers ruffled because they were not chosen for this or that job? How about church members who get mad when a church event takes place on a weekend that they are going to be out of town? Some people think they are the royal family.

    We have been going over our old minutes of business meetings back in the 20s for a homecoming event next Sunday. We found a man and a wife disfellowshipped for dancing with each other, and a man disfellowshipped for investing in the stock market. To say this is a cultural issue is nonsense. It was wrong then to bring these charges, as it would be now. The Lord's standards do not change over the decades. Had I been able to be at that meeting, I would have either been kicked out myself because I would have defended these people to my last breath. Had I survived, I would have brought charges against those who put these members in that position for unBiblical reasons.

    The games we play.

    To answer the original question, no, I would not attend a same sex marriage, and do not condone it under any circumstances. In the work place, I treat them like any other coworker, as I never viewed the work place as a resource for potential dating and the fact I have been married for 35 years.

    Oh, another point, since the title of this thread is respect, how to we rate in that department on this board?

    Yes, sin is sin (as very well put by Saturn) but Matthew commands us to preach the Gospel to every creature

    Instead of Hitler could we invoke the name of Saul (Paul) ?

    Suppose Ananias (Acts 9:10) had the same attitude towads Saul (a mass murderer) as we we would have against Hitler?

    I believe I would respect the fact that Adolf has (had) a soul and spirit that needed Christ Jesus.

    Suppose you had the opportunity to witness to Hitler, would you do so?

    Homosexuals are unwilling to accept your witness.

    They are so unwilling toward the message of the Lord that He gave them up. If our Lord gave them up lets see a show of hands of those who think a mortal man can reach them.

    The answer is no to both based on the definition of respect;

    Respect denotes both a positive feeling of esteem for a person or other entity (such as a nation or a religion), and also specific actions and conduct representative of that esteem. Respect can be a specific feeling of regard for the actual qualities of the one respected (e.g., "I have great respect for her judgment").

    A show of hands from those who believe FAL can change the mind of God.

    Those who might be experimenting with said life style perhaps still have a spark of ability left to change their ways. Those who are hard core no one will reach.

    Correct, He shows mercy on some of every kind of sinner.​

    FAL, talk to me about "judging". Practically everything posted by you is in opposition to all comments made not only by me, but by most all others in that they are wrong and you're attempting to bless me/them with your vast knowledge and insights to all things spiritual. So talk to me about "judging" others.

    It also appears to me that some maturity might be in order here on your part and that consideration be given to this need of always having to be right while all others are stupid and outside your right-handed position with our Lord.

    As for me, I believe that ignoring you and your future posts w/comments would be to my advantage. You see, I realize just how limited I am when it comes to the vastness of God and His knowledge and wisdom..., and your constant innuendo(s) regarding, not only my shallowness but that of all others who post on here, really takes away from a desire to post on this forum to begin with.

    So, Mr. FAL, have at it. As I've said before, it should not be a burden to be a Christian. Burden appears to be your game and while you might not want to believe it, the Lord is quite capable to speaking to me when I am wrong.

    Hank you are trying to change the topic. The topic is not about God's mercy and telling someone about the Lord unto salvation. The topic is about respecting someone who is a sinner and in this case a particular type of sinner. Based on the definition I posted the answer is no I do not respect them. I would still tell them the truth out of love, but not respect them. I might add that just because I do not respect them based on the definition I would not disrespect them. I would and have shown them the love of the Lord by offering them freedom from their sin if they will repent and believe.
