Report: Sarkozy calls Netanyahu 'liar'

French President Nicolas Sarkozy reportedly told US President Barack Obama that he could not "stand" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and that he thinks the Israeli premier "is a liar."

According to a Monday report in the French website "Arret sur Images," after facing reporters for a G20 press conference on Thursday, the two presidents retired to a private room, to further discuss the matters of the day.

The conversation apparently began with President Obama criticizing Sarkozy for not having warned him that France would be voting in favor of the Palestinian membership bid in UNESCO despite Washington's strong objection to the move.

The conversation then drifted to Netanyahu, at which time Sarkozy declared: "I cannot stand him. He is a liar." According to the report, Obama replied: "You're fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day!"

The remark was naturally meant to be said in confidence, but the two leaders' microphones were accidently left on, making the would-be private comment embarrassingly public.

The surprising lack of coverage may be explained by a report alleging that reporters present at the event were requested to sign an agreement to keep mum on the subject of the embarrassing comments.

A member of the media confirmed Monday that "there were discussions between journalists and they agreed not to publish the comments due to the sensitivity of the issue."

He added that while it was annoying to have to refrain from publishing the information, the journalists are subject to precise rules of conduct.

What?

First, did they really think it would stay quiet (they may not care, as long as it stays quiet enough that the relatively disengaged don't catch wind of it), and second, who in the world elected them the world's information gatekeepers?

The Sarkozy-Obama exchange reflects the world's growing frustration with Netanyahu

“If a remark by French President Nicolas Sarkozy publicized Tuesday is any indication, not much is left of what was once a strong friendship between himself and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, dating back to when both men were finance ministers.”

“During a French cabinet meeting a few weeks ago, he told his ministers, "Abu Mazen [Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas] is a statesman, but Netanyahu never misses an opportunity to disappoint us," according to a report in Le Canard Enchaine. "Just now he approved the construction of 1,100 apartments in the Arab section of Jerusalem."”““

"And while Obama has been restraining himself so as not to alienate voters before the 2012 presidential election, his disdain for Netanyahu is well-known.”

“Former U.S. defense secretary Robert Gates reportedly called Netanyahu "ungrateful" in a meeting with Obama before the former left his post this summer, adding that the prime minister was "endangering his country by refusing to grapple with Israel's growing isolation."”

Sarkozy (a Jew), has told the truth concerning Netanyahu (another Jew), and now it's needful for the Jewish damage control folks to get involved

It was Obama and Sorkozy who made the stupid comments. They should be doing damage control, not the "Jewish damage control folks".

No matter that they believed their conversation to be in private?

No matter that the 'stupid comments' may indeed be true?

They should be doing damage control....

No, they were eavesdrooped on, and someone should be ashamed of and apologize for pitter pattering their lil' feet and tattlin' like a lil' girl.

... not the "Jewish damage control folks".

No, it's their job, it's what they were created for, to combat any form or appearance of anti-semitism, real or imagined, fact or fiction, true or not.

They could have made "true" statements about the Palestinians that would have been very impolitic to say. You'd probably want some damage control in that case, apologies etc.

haha. These geniuses were wearing live mikes and made the comments anyway. Probably didn't even care that they were overheard.

What is it with you and the Jews?

yea comes across as anti-Semitic

Actually I've said nothing negative or hateful. Pointing out facts as they are that some may not be aware of. If the intent of the OP was to imply anti-semitism, or anti-Israel sentiment on the part of U.S. & French presidents, is it somehow inherently wrong to present a more balanced view by pointing out that one of them himself is a Jew? How many knew that the ADL is a Jewish organization whose main mission is to combat anti-semitism?

Stop being such little girls.

What percentage of people in Bush's and Obama's administration are Jews? Is it an inordinate amount?

That's the real comparative number.

Politicians get caught on open mics all the time. It's not big deal IMHO.

If Sarkozy doesn't like Netanyahu that's fine. I don't care his, Netanyahu's rhetoric all the time. Though I'm not in a position to judge his truthfulness, he pushed his points too much sometimes.

Are you able to respond to someone who believes in dispensationalism without the insulting remark?

You're right, my apologies, I'll try to do better in the future (even though dispies are very decieved in believing political Israel to be the circumcision when scriptures plainly teach Christians are the circumcision). We are given a THREEFOLD WARNING about this very deception in Phil 3:2,3
