I left the Republican Party years ago, mostly thanks to Bush. I think everyone should leave the party.
I think there may be only one thing holding the RP together - restrictive ballot access laws in most of the states.

I sat astonished last night as I listened to Bill Kristol, a neocon heavyweight (Bill's daddy practically started the whole neocon movement) say these words:

I don't know if he's a good guy or not, but he's not a Republican.

He runs for office as a Republican, because he can't get elected as a Libertarian.

Really? What part of the Republican platform does he disagree with?

Smaller government?

Strong defense without "policing the world" as Ronald Reagan said?

Liberty?

States rights?

Anti-abortion?

Which of these is he "not a republican" on?

Ron Paul is smart enough to know that many Americans won't take a chance on a third party ticket. So, he has had to work from the inside as a Republican.

Personally, the RP left me a long time ago. They are just Dem Lights in practice.

Ron Paul ran for President on the Libertarian ticket in 1988, and obtained about 0.5% of the popular vote. His running mate Andre Marou ran again in 1992 and obtained 0.28% of the popular vote. After this poor showing, Ron Paul went back to the GOP with his tail between his legs.

Why did he leave the Republican party in the first place?

He vehemently disagreed with the policies of Ronald Reagan.

Those of us in New York, left the Republician Party back in 1962. We started the Conservative Party. Now the Reps realzie they need to work with us to win elections.

PS - did you know that one of the founder of the NY Conservative Party was Charles Edison - son of Thomas A Edison!

He actually agreed with Reagan but Reagan changed once he took office. When Reagan was elected, people said he was too radical to win election because of his Goldwater beliefs. Paul, like Goldwater, has those similar beliefs. Reagan, however, compromised thus Paul ran away.

If you want 3rd parties in America, get rid of all the laws that give the two major parties unfair advantages. If you do that (which is something I have been supporting for years), then I think we would see about 4-5 different parties spring up overnight. To me, getting rid of the laws that virtually give the R's and D's a monopoly in our system are corrupt laws made by corrupt party people. Kill those laws then 3rd parties may have a chance, like they did when Lincoln came on the scene.

I have a chuckle when I read you've been fighting the 2 party system for years....LOL. Son, Ive got warts older than you

Anyway, I agree .....we need to break this 2 party grip on America. How do you (with all your years of experience) suggest we go about doing it?

Congress should be elected by parties based on voter registration.
For example - if 38% of the voters are Rep - they get 38% of seats in Congress

if the Green party has 3% of the registered voters....

Thoughts?

Bill Kristol is a white Juan Williams and instead of being a hard nosed closed minded liberal as Juan is Kristol is a hard nosed closed minded republican.

That's convenient.

It's kinda fun to watch Paul explain why he's a libertarian, not a Republican.

Paulbots really make me laugh.

First, I am not a Paulbot... that is rather crazy considering my vast stands on a variety of issues.

Yet, you did not address one issue in my post. Would you call Barry Goldwater a Republican? Do you think the principles Reagan ran on in 1980 was Republican? Would you not agree that Goldwater influenced Reagan and Paul? Would you agree that Paul is closer to Goldwater than Reagan was after the election?

Paul embraced the corrupt Republican Party because the corrupt two party system has a monopoly on the system making a 3rd party almost impossible.

There are two boats afloat in our system, all other systems are dead in the water due to the corrupt regulations and laws imposed by the Dems and Republicans. As a result, Paul must be one or the other.

I am a Goldwater Republican... but we have never been welcomed in the Republican Party. When Reagan ran as a Goldwater Republican, he was said to be too radical for the party. He later took office and compromised on his beliefs. Ron Paul has remained a consistent Goldwater Republican... and once again the corrupt establishment bash him for the same things they bashed Reagan... what a shame.

It was the Republicans who thought Reagan was too radical to be a Republican... and the same group of people are saying it about Ron Paul. I stand with Paul and Goldwater... though I did leave the utterly corrupt Republican Party.

Uh huh.

If it quacks like a duck...

Funny. He keeps asking you to address the issue, and you keep dodging.

So tell, me, oh wise one, do you agree that Paul, and the rest of us early Reagan/Goldwater types, should leave the party? Cause if you do, you realize that with a 15 to 20 percent drop in numbers (actually, in terms of foreign policy the last poll among Republicans showed that 37 percent agreed with Paul... yet we are "outside the mainstream), you will likely never win another election.

It would be HIGHLY disgusting of you, to suggest that Paul leave, while the rest of us who agree with him stay and "tow the party line." If we are here, then people who represent our views are here. Otherwise, we take our ball and go home, and the democrats get the whole thing.
