There was people in the bible who were depressed and would be diagnosed as having a mental illness today. Show me someone who did not first have sin in their life before the depression. How about David, always because of sin. How about Moses, always because of sin. How about Job, because of sin. Sin is always the cause of deeper things which are also sin. Drugs mask the real problem, but if we trust God we will confess and forsake like David, Moses, and Job did and be healed.

A I said before, the onus is on you. Answer the multiple calls for Scriptural references backing up what you claim to be from the Bible, or admit you have been spouting falsehoods.

At this point, your credibility is shot.

Well I understand but if you cannot believe the bible then you will not believe me. All sin is spiritual and all sin is dealt with by confessing and forsaking, not drugs. Drugs mask sin, but confession and forsaking heals.

    You really don't get it.

NOBODY disagrees that all sin is spiritual and all sin is dealt with by confessing and forsaking.

YOU have not posted how or which "drugs mask sin."

Oh, I believe the Bible. I don't believe you because you refuse to give reference to that which supports your contention.

    You are a wolf.

Such a post (that is habitually repetitious) might be considered a sign of avoidance.

It occurs when one does not like to admit, confront, or be confronted.

If you deny it, then you are in denial which is usually followed up by more denial.

    :)

Yes, and you're onto something with the ODD thing.

Plainly, some give themselves a rise by the putting down of others and accusing them of masking sin and/or wanting an excuse for sin amidst other accusations. It must make them feel superior, or help with their dire need of validation, and the need to feel superior to others.

The fact remains, there is a need for growth in grace in addition to substantiative proof for the false accusations of and from freeatlast.

He needs to put it to rest and concentrate on his own faults which he's masking, all the while he hides behind his inability to prove his accusations he has cast on others.

Case closed: He cannot prove a thing he has accused upon others, nor can he answer the questions I've supplied.

OK, I agree with that part. I already said that.

But there is such a thing as a chemical imbalance of the human body, which imbalance, I agree, does not and cannot cause one to sin. These conditions are caused by heredity, disease, poor diet or trauma some/many of which can be dealt with (or at least the symptoms) by administering certain substances such as insulin, potassium pills, iron pills, vitamins, etc...

For instance Beriberi (Vitamin B1 deficiency) can be relieved by taking B complex vitamins (obviously).

I believe we can all agree that there is only one thing which can cleanse us from sin - The blood of Jesus Christ.

Personally I think that this debate has turned into a stalemate, a contest of wills (my opinion of course).

Go ahead. They are drugs too.

The issue here is who rules who. Are you enjoying that coffee or do you turn to it when you really need God? Are you enjoying that smoke, or are you turning to it instead of relying on God? Are you enjoying that shopping trip, or are you using it to fill a need only God can feel?

A drug has been defined as something that is mind or mood altering. That can be anything that gives you a sense of calm, peace, or changes your attitude/emotions at any given moment.

Anything can be an idol, even good things. The issue is the place they have in our lives.

Caffeine is crystalline xanthine alkaloid; a stimulant. Nicotine, also an alkaloid, is a stimulant. Soooooooo.....

Is drinking coffee a sin? Is it masking the root cause of all ills?

Freeatlast- To put it plainly and simply, you need to repent. You are fooling no one. You have claimed as Biblical that which is not in the Bible. You have bullied and goaded, in a particularly unchristianlike manner, those who are struggling with certain issues. You have falsely accused others of essentially going astray from the Faith.

You could have laid the matter to rest by answering the multiple requests for specific Scriptural references that support your contention. You refused. You rather accused those who seek said references of rejecting Scripture.

You are a pretender. A wolf.

Your credibility and reputation are shot. Your shame is of your own doing.

My problem is with the parents and teachers who are too eger to accept the hasty diagnosis of ADHD with out recognizing the real truth that the child is eating too many choclate bars and consuning far too many sodas and sugar drinks. This seems to be the easy way out to them. Do they realize they are making their child an addict. I have a great grand child that this is being done to. He can set for hours and play electronic games and watch tv. I have given up on saying anything as it usually ends up in a disagreement.

It may be a sin. It depends on the individual. Some people are ruled by caffeine and nicotine. That is actually why I quit smoking 4 years ago.

I am not a part of the crowd that thinks the "body is a temple" verse has to do with what we eat or drink.

Part of this thread's purpose is to explore areas in which a person might self medicate.

I have read with interest what has been said.

Does anyone consider that intoxicants that are viewed by some as Scriptural may be another form of self medication?

You mean like that morning cup of coffee steaming away on my desk? You don't have to go to Big Pharma or the package store to find something to "pick you up". I got mine off the kitchen counter.

:wavey: I confess. I am a stimulant user. I like my stimulant brewed in a Bunn coffeemaker with dark roast beans that I'll grind just seconds before it goes in the basket. Cream, no sugar. I also prefer to drink it out of a stoneware mug with small butterflies on it. On work days I put my stimulant in a Stanley thermos and consume it throughout the day.

    I need a 12 Step program.

    I have a great 12 step program.

It is about 12 steps round trip from my laptop to the coffee machine.

I prefer mine, with a cube or two of ice so I can taste without needing to sip - maybe I should have said gulp without sip.

Slight bit of hazelnut with no cream, no sugar, just black - no sense watering down the effects.

So what are you masking behind your use of stimulants, agedman? :tongue3: I use mine to come against and rebuke the spirit of grog and groutchiness.
