According to the report, the only injury was a superficial scratch on her neck.

If that's a beating, my husband, children, and dog have all beaten me by accident at some point in my life and I give myself an accidental beating about once a month.

Now I suppose if it was done one purpose, intent is one thing, but I have a hard time believing that a violent person who needs arrested would intentionally set out to put a superficial scratch on someone's neck and leave it at that. Sounds more like he spanked her for disrespecting him and she was fighting the punishment.

No parent is perfect. Everyone can point and glare and say "how horrid, he lost his temper" but at the end of the day, she appears to have suffered nothing but a little loss of pride and a superficial scratch in response to her poor behavior.

If there's anyone on here who has never over-reacted to anything in a moment of frustration or anger, congrats. You're a saint.

The only difference between this guy and the majority of other human beings is that someone called the police and the way things are, they will side with a minor 99.999% of the time to keep THEMSELVES safe and their own best interests in mind. Understandable, but it sure can screw up families!

No that isn't the only difference. Maybe in your household it is acceptable to choke your child, throw them to the ground, and then hit them with a shoe. In mine it isn't. I would suspect in most healthy households this isn't acceptable behavior. Again, maybe it is in yours, but I would hope not. The 15 year old's story was backed up the 19 year old daughter.

(I'm not a Creflo Dollar fan, but)

Not quite. She prevaricated in her statements, making a verbal statement that supported her sister, then a written statement that did nit, then after being confronted with the incongruity, she wrote out a second statement agreeing with the verbal statement.

Choking will leave bruises- none were noted.

She was with parents Creflo and Taffy when she wrote the false account whitewashing the attack. She actually wrote that she was changing the story so her father wouldn't get arrested.

Although I am no fan of this man, this is a case of the Gestpo police being used by a rebellious daughter to get revenge for her not being allowed to do as she pleases.

And you know this for a fact? What facts do you have other than the testimony of the 15 year old and the testimony of the 19 year old?

It's amazing to me how quickly people want to defend someone that has been accused of child abuse. Immediately the victim and the witness are dismissed as liars. The father must be telling the truth because he's the father, right?

The question is this: The police came right away, not days later - and noticed a scratch. Is that from the punching, the hitting with a shoe or the choking? Trust me - those verbs carry much more injury than a scratch.

No one is being dismissed as a liar but you can't always take the victim's story as gospel. I was barely kicked by a horse once - didn't even know he got me. I had a bruise the size of a cantaloup. When I was punched as a teen by a strange man, I ended up with a jaw the color of blueberries. (LOL - I guess I'm thinking of fruit right now!). But if your father attacks you the way she's saying he attacked her, I'd bet my bottom dollar that there will be more signs of that abuse than a scratch. The police showed up right away - was there redness on her neck? If someone chokes you, there is redness and swelling - along with affects to the eyes. Were these observed?

I know rebellious teens who have reported their parents for abuse when the parents never laid a hand on them. The truth did come out later but not until after the parents went through <edited - LE (grief)>. I'd like to know the WHOLE story here - not just a few words from either side.

Funny how TBN was pulled into the stink by the choice of the thread title. Could have used ABC Family, Daystar, Inspiration Network, Discovery Channel, Church Channel, and others, but I guess mentioning TBN has a bigger effect on people's perception (you know... those loonies over there on TBN..).

And, I know of a teen girl who's step-father wouldn't buy something she wanted. She came out of the bathroom, sat in his lap, and opened the towel. She then called protective services. The only thing that kept this man out of jail was the fact she told her friends, before hand, how she was going to get even with him.

When the Duke Lacross players were accused of rape, some of my family members wanted them put under the jail. This has now become my classic example to others to wait until you learn the WHOLE story.

I agree with you, physical abuse, as described in this story, does leave much more than a scratch on the neck. That could have been self-inflicted to give some "evidence". I'm not saying that's what happened, as I don't know.

I do know from all the bumps and bruises I've had over the years, that if I were beaten by someone using a shoe, there would be no doubt about it. Choking does leave finger shaped marks on the neck. First, as red marks, then later as black & blue ones.

Again, I don't know what actually happened. Some parents do cross the line into abuse when dicipling their children. Some parents murder their children, too. OTOH, some good parents are abused by the system, when there was no intent to abuse or "endanger" a child. Example: Child slips out of the house while Mom is on the phone. Something happens to the child. Mom gets charged with abuse.

One more time. I don't know what actually happened in this case!

However, I do know children are being taught their "rights", as society defines them. At an early age, children know how to use the "system" to get what they want or punish their parents if they don't get it.

In closing, I remember when reasonable physical punishment for misbehavior was acceptable, in the home, in school, in public, and even on the back steps of the church. Also, remember when kids didn't run wild through the church, didn't control what Mom puts in the grocery cart, or hurl verbal abuse at teachers or any other adult who attempts to correct their behavior.

"You can't make me ........ I'll call the law!"

    Sigh.

He had her in a choke hold (arm encircling neck) for several seconds. Why do you think that would leave 'finger shaped marks'?

He put her hands around her throat, not arms. Or at least that was stated here.

There is enough ambiguity in the police report coupled with the lack of physical evidence mentioned that I am not so quick to hang the black man. (How's THAT for "stink"?)

    From the 911 call:

"he went off. He came and put his arm around my neck and choked me and bent me over the table"

What father (tries to) spank a 15 year old girl anyway? Is that normal?

Funny how people who were not there are tripping over themselves to defend this guy. None of us are privy to what happened.

Exactly. Their ain't a soul on this thread who was in that room and saw what happened, yet some here have branded her as many unpleasant things.

I've not responded because I don't have enough information.

You know what though? I believe that this pastor should step down from the pulpit for a time and be a father. It's apparent that something is wrong at home and he needs to take care of it.
