I was watching a show on fossils, and turned it off after they continued to tell the audience that some fossils were hundreds of millions of years old. I find these theories hard to wrap my head around, because I believe the earth to be a lot younger than these old fossil hunters, and archeologists love to affix to their finds! Perhaps in the range of 7,000 years.

So, how do you, as a believer in Creationism, neutralize [offset, thwart, compensate for the huge age discrepancies] point the theories of the age of fossils?

Exodus 20:11 (KJV) For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Open and shut case if you ask me. The Earth is young. The fossils, sedimentary layers, etc., cannot be older than the Earth itself.

Man was created on the sixth day. And we have a description of births and ages in the Bible that identify the Earth to be young.

    Fred....

...when I read your comment, I immediately checked the ceiling above me, as I wanted to make sure the roof wasn't falling in. :tonofbricks:

After all, this is probably the first time we've AGREED on something. What a sweet sensation in my spirit to know that we do see some things in the same light [His]! :applause:

    God bless you brother!

The earth, and all creation, appear to be billions of years old.

I'm a young-earther. Four-thousand to six thousand years is about right.

First came the Big Bang, then, out of the cosmos, came God who begot the Son who begot the Holy Spirit. Four billion years past, and earth cooled off. As single cell life evolved, weasels, rats, foxes, ostriches, and leeches appeared. From these species, the present day US Congress was formed. This order of creation should please the new Mormon President.

I believe in a young earth. I don't place much credence in Bishop Usher's dating but there have been studies using carbon dating that indicate an age for the earth of about 12,000 years.

The so-called fossil record is basically the result of evolutionary thinking and is deeply flawed. Fossils are dated using the uniformitarian theory of geology giving erroneous ages. It is a fact that a uniformitarian history of the earth is incorrect. It is also a fact that fossils supposedly millions of years old are found in geologic layers much younger.

A little logic, I believe, would show that the mere presence of fossils indicates a catastrophic history of the earth. When something dies it normally decays or is eaten unless something intervenes to bury the item.

One thing, perhaps the only thing, that indicates an old earth is starlight from distant stars. There are studies by astro physicists who are also creationists to explain starlight and time.

I too believe in a young earth. You bring up a good point though. If a star is one million light years away, and we see it, it is kind of hard to explain the young earth. I believe it because the Bible says six days.

There have been several dinosaurs found with soft tissue. This is a scientific fact.

    http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/dinosaur.html

It would be impossible for soft tissue to survive for 65-70 million years, supposedly when dinosaurs went extinct.

Of course, while science cannot deny this soft tissue, they simply say there is some previously unknown process of preservation that must be studied to explain this tissue.

They ignore that there have been literally thousands of reports of "dragons" from civilizations all over the world for thousands of years.

They ignore that complex life appeared suddenly in the Cambrian Explosion. They have had to come up with ridiculous theories like the Hopeful Monster and Punctuated Equilibrium. Total nonsense.

One day with the LORD is as a thousand years. How can we definitively know the human, physical age of the earth, as we know it??

For many years, man didn't even know the earth was round. It only existed where that man was.

    Cheers,

    Jim

How can we know? By reading the Word of God.

    Possibility:
He made the heaven of outer space in a compressed state and then stretched it out:

Psalm 104:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.
2 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain.

Isaiah 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

Isaiah 45:12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

Jeremiah 51:15 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding.

    And other passages...

That is an excellent post. The Bible is a book of faith, not a scientific laboratory. Looking at my post another way, if the earth is 7000 years old, we would only see a few hundred stars in the sky, Alpha Centauri (a triple star system) at 4.3 light years, and Barnards Star, 6 light years are the closest. The center of our galaxy is 26,000 light years, older than the earth, yet we can see stars close to the center. Now, we know we see thousands of stars, yet I literally believe the Bible, therefore there has to be some mechanism in Creation we do not understand, probably something to do with Creation outside the element of time and space. Your verses are a great way to explain that.

Actually I found it somewhere else myself - here on the BB several years ago but I forget who.

I just believe the Word of God.

Genesis 1:16 (KJV) And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

Though stars may be thousands of light years away, does that necessarily mean that God could not have created them in one day and placed them where in space He wanted them to be?

God made the Earth in one day. If one were to try to circumvent the globe it would take more than one day, would it not? So why is it so hard to grasp the fact that God made the stars in one day also?

Is anything too hard for God?

    Good post HankD.

A number of years ago someone wrote a book Your God is Too Small. Can't recall whether I read it or not. The point is: God as revealed in Scripture and finally by Jesus Christ is able to accomplish that which He chooses and in the manner He chooses. The Scripture you presented demonstrate that truth.

I believe that many doubters would do well to consider what God told the patriarch Job and each of us!

    Job 38:1-4
    1. Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
    2. Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
    3. Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
    4. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
