A large majority of likely voters believes all Americans should pay some federal income tax -- even if it is as little as one percent of what they make.

Seventy-nine percent say everyone should pay something, according to a Fox News poll released Thursday. That includes 85 percent of Republicans, 83 percent of independents and 71 percent of Democrats.

According to the IRS, last year approximately 41 percent of tax filers did not pay federal income tax. The Tax Policy Center estimates that will increase to 46 percent this year.

President Reagan wanted all Americans to pay lower taxes which is why the tax burden on much of the middle and lower classes were eliminated or highly lowered. Same with President Bush's tax cuts. A conservative perspective on this: http://www.nationalreview.com/agenda/322408/makers-takers-taxpayers-etc-reihan-salam#

Of course wanting everybody to share the tax burden seems like a high and mighty thing to do, but a politician who truly advocates this won't be getting much of the vote!

Fed income tax needs to be eliminated altogether and a flat electronic tax implemented. Illegals and everyone would pay using this approach

I would love to read an explanation of the rationale behind this statement.

Everyone who holds a legit job pays a tax on their income called the payroll tax. This is beyond the ability of many people to understand. Why? Because your religion teaches you to be slaves to words and customs. For example, a tax not listed as a tax on a 1040 form can't be an income tax.

You suffer from a common liberal affliction of wanting to redefine words to suit your argument.

Federal Income Tax is a defined word and Payroll Tax is a completely different defined word.

The two are not the same no matter how much you wish for them to be to support your political position.

Try being reality based once in a while.

For once, I agree with billwald.

But, if an income tax is instituted, it should be on each one, and there should be no automatic deductions. Everyone should have to write a check on April 15.

It would at least teach some people to plan ahead and drive the IRS crazy.

Meanwhile democrats are buying votes from 50% of tax filers with welfare payments funded through the tax code.

Th percentages don't match up, meaning a lot of people have no clue what is going on right under their noses.

First of all, it makes no difference what 79% of Americans say. Payroll and income taxes are defined by law. As Christians we are to obey the law. End of story.

Blah, blah, blah. And the law says we can change the law. The guy who campaigns on eliminating the power of government to levy certain taxes has my vote.

The first three words are the best interpretation of Scripture I have seen in your recent posts. The Bible says to obey the law. It always amazes me that those who want the law changed the most do the least to accomplish that goal.

I agree that anyone who is for less government has my vote. I do not agree with comments like "blah, blah, blah" because it shows a lack of anything to contribute. It is probably a case of someone who never goes beyond posting on BB to complain and an occasional trip to the voting booth. Changing a law requires grass roots work, getting out, talking to people, organizing, and taking an interest on the future of this country. It seems to me those who shout the loudest on BB do the least.

You are one of the few people I have noticed that take an active interest in the direction of the country. That along with your service to this country is owed a debt of thanks.
