From the link: "Ryan has labeled himself as agnostic and continues to believe in a supreme being—he just hasn't figured out what form that is or how he wants to recognize it."

I'm still trying to figure that out.

Time for another donation to the BSA

He Broke the Scouting Oath (Promise)...

That oath is as follows:

On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

...I'm sorry, but as a former scouring executive and scout, I see nothing wrong in what the scouts did. This young man swore to be morally straight [among other things] and he broke that oath.

You get what you deserve, Ryan: Nothing!

The BSA is under assault from the gay community, and this was one more attempt to trip them up!

I am proud to be a life time member of the Order of the Arrow, and as a scout, I stand with their decision to remain "morally straight" even though it may not be acceptable by a small percentage of our society.

This isn't the United States military, it is a private organization that has chosen to make a stand against homos@#uality, I say good for them :thumbsup:

Come on Bill!

That will make for an interesting legal case. How does being a homosexual violate the Boy Scout Law?

....you make some interesting comments, but this one shows your inability to understand the right of a private organization to control who can be a member and enjoy the privileges of that organization!

Read the Scout Oath and note that "Gay" is not being morally straight!

On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

Defining boy scout oath

from http://usscouts.org/advance/boyscout/bsoath.asp

. . . and morally straight.

To be a person of strong character, your relationships with others should be honest and open. You should respect and defend the rights of all people. Be clean in your speech and actions, and remain faithful in your religious beliefs. The values you practice as a Scout will help you shape a life of virtue and self-reliance.

Knowing the values and standards of the organization and living a lifestyle in opposition to those is not honest.

I feel sorry for this kid. He will be used as a political pawn by liberals for some time now.

I dunno in way he's doing the Scouts a favor I reckon. He's taking the heat off all those gay Scout masters out there for a minute. Not to mention those who would turn the Boy Scouts of America into a military outfit. :smilewinkgrin:

Evidence this person is not a chaste homosexual??????????

Jerry Sandusky would have said ANYTHING to make you feel OK about his entrance. Still trying to justify perversion? Tame it perhaps?

Good Try BW...Good Try?

To be a person of strong character (Living a lie and coming out a week before he was to get his Eagle rank is NOT strong character), your relationships with others should be honest and open (He lived as a gay for an unknown number of years, again, he lacked true honesty with self and others). You should respect and defend the rights of all people. Be clean in your speech and actions (IMHO his lifestyle is one of Biblical perversion), and remain faithful in your religious beliefs (he claims to be an atheist). The values you practice (again, he swore to the oath of the scouts, knowing that gays were not accepted in the organization, a yet he went forward, hoping his outing would place pressure on the BSA and maybe make it change it's values. This is practicing a life that will shape other - unless you mean shaping future gays scouts?) as a Scout will help you shape a life of virtue and self-reliance.

As I said earlier BW, you may have seriously missed the point in this one! Stick with politics, at least you can stand behind your liberal leanings. This is a moral issue, not a political one (even though your POTUS would like to make it one).

Again, KUDOS to the BSA! I hope they never change their stance. It is Biblically sound, which is why many religious groups sponsor troops and packs.

Let's rephrase the OP:

The California teen made headlines around the world last week after his scoutmaster refused to approve his Eagle Scout award because Ryan [has a deviant and unnatural sexual appetite that cannot be righteously satisfied.]

...and wishes to base his identity on that apetite, and to coerce others into respecting his deviance as natural and chaste.

I just read what was included in the OP link.

"But I do feel that it does its own self both harm and disrespect when it puts its principles, even were they to be unquestionably sound, before actual people, actual human beings—in this case, a young man who has undoubtedly endured an incredible amount of difficulty in reconciling who he is with a group of friends and mentors whom he admires and for whom he has striven for over a decade to emulate and make proud," he posted on Facebook.

Can someone explain that to me?

It's fine to stand on the principle Thou Shalt Not Murder, but don't apply that to "actual people".
