WASHINGTON (AP) — Your medical plan is facing an unexpected expense, so you probably are, too. It's a new, $63-per-head fee to cushion the cost of covering people with pre-existing conditions under President Barack Obama's health care overhaul.

The charge, buried in a recent regulation, works out to tens of millions of dollars for the largest companies, employers say. Most of that is likely to be passed on to workers.

Employee benefits lawyer Chantel Sheaks calls it a "sleeper issue" with significant financial consequences, particularly for large employers.

"Especially at a time when we are facing economic uncertainty, (companies will) be hit with a multi-million dollar assessment without getting anything back for it," said Sheaks, a principal at Buck Consultants, a Xerox subsidiary.

Based on figures provided in the regulation, employer and individual health plans covering an estimated 190 million Americans could owe the per-person fee.

Oh, there are many, many surprises facing us in obamacare, that will help fast track our nation to bankruptcy, this is just one.

But this is what America wanted and this is what America voted for. Some of us tried to warn, didn't we? Oh, well. (yawn)

Thanks for keeping us up to speed, Rev. Sorry I sound sarcastic, my sarcasm is not directed at you. :flower:

The answer is oh, so simple, but House Republicans are too corrupt and stupid to do it--- and the simple answer is - "DEFUND OBAMACARE" - the House holds the purse.

Nothing in it should be a surprise. Remember we had to pass the bill to know what was in it. IMO, this is just the beginning.

Remember, too, Obama wasn't going to raise taxes on those making less than $250,000 per year. I don't care what you call it -- taxes, fees, admin costs -- the government is pulling more and more out of EVERYONE'S pockets. People earning less than, say $20,000 per year, are included. Thus, there's less money available to drive this consumer based economy. (Reference to another thread.)

LD is right. My thanks, too.

The House controls (is that still accurate in reality) the implementation of ObamaCare. However, I have to disagree a bit with one point, LD. Stupid doesn't enter into the picture. Lack of guts due to self-interests is, IMO, the core of the problem. I don't imagine many go to Washington with the intent of only serving one term if that's what it takes to stand for their convictions.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I direct your attention to the link displayed below. In it you will find hypocrisy to the fullest extent. Watch as liberal Democrats in a state with several Fortune 500 medical device manufacturers attempt to divorce themselves from their vote for ObamaCare! Marvel at the pandering being done!

Klobuchar and Franken fight planned tax on medical devices

WASHINGTON - Minnesota's two senators sought Monday to delay a tax on medical devices that was expected to add $28 billion over the next decade to help pay for health care reform.

Democratic Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken pointed to thousands of high-paying jobs that device companies support in Minnesota, headquarters to such giant devicemakers as Medtronic and St. Jude Medical. The industry has painted the tax as a job killer that would hurt innovation.
