It is becoming more evident, that violence is becoming a norm in our society. Not even 24 hours after the Sandy Hook killings comes another mass shooting at an alabama hosptial.

    SEE:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/...id10|htmlws-main-bb|dl8|sec1_lnk3&pLid=246321

Also look at our local paper here in Rivcerside County (http://www.pe.com/), then notice the articles on the front page dealing with violence, especially (http://www.pe.com/local-news/topics...s-prepare-for-shootings-other-emergencies.ece)

Will we, as a society, just have to adjust and adapt to violence? I can't help but wonder? :tear:

I believe we'll continue to see crime rates go up. The economy is in bad shape contrary to what the corporate backed and funded experts tell us. As more counties, cities and towns go bankrupt we'll see more police forces cut and more people becoming desperate to feed themselves, their families and their addictions.

We have 100 million people on welfare in this country. What's going to happen when the government decides to cut their benefits? Not to worry though the government has been gearing up for this for a long time now. It's been militarizing the police, doing away with posse comitatus and due process, training foreigners to control us and building bunkers to hide in and stocking them full with supplies of food medicine and billions of bullets.

You think it' s bad now wait till the dollar collapses.

Will We Have to Just Live With Violence?

We already are living with violence everyday.

Just turn on the TV for local news.

Murder used to be fairly uncommon in small towns in rural areas. At least it was around here. Not any more. Every morning, there's a fresh report of people dying at the hands of others. Especially in the larger metro areas in central NC. Small towns and rural homes aren't immume either.

    Drive by shootings.
    Home invasions.
    Young children killed by parents.
    Convenience store employee murders.
    Husbands/wives killing each other.
    Bodies dumped in isolated areas.

    The list can go on.

Grew up in a time when no one locked their doors. Left them open at night in the days before air conditioning. Now, there a stop kick propped under the door knob, in addition to the deadbolt, when we go to bed.

Have to adapt and adjust to it? It's been happening for quite a while now. If you haven't already been adapting and adjusting, you've been living in a bubble. Mass shootings are spectacular and tragic, especially when children are involved, but I can't recall very many mornings when I've been listening to news radio on the way to work that I haven't heard at least one story of an overnight shooting which occurred locally, and if there are that many happening where I am, there have to be hundreds on a daily basis across the country.

Discussion of the solution is pointless. People do things because they are, by their nature, sinful. Murder is a symptom of human nature left to its own devices. Virtually every spectacular recent mass shooting has been the act of an individual judged to be mentally unbalanced and unstable, and yet, as a society, commercial interests and extremists block any attempt to consider ways to keep semi-automatic assault weapons out of the hands of these people. It's not rocket science.

Actually, Jack, Ct's gun laws are amongst the strictest in the nation.

One thing the gun control people have done is made it clear that if a nut with a semi auto weapon wants to kill a bunch of children no one at any school in the United States is going to be able to stop them.

Because schools are "gun free zones".

The gun grabbers have the blood of hundreds of people on their hands because they refuse to listen to reason.

We pump our kids full of prescription drugs that are known to cause violent and suicidal tendencies because we want them to behave and because of the twisted thought that disciplining a child is some type of torture then wonder why people go on violent rampages. We've continued to demand that a policy of prohibition that was doomed from the start be continued despite the lessons we learned from our past with this policy. It causes organized crime and all the violence that goes along with it. Parents who are horrified by real violence are drowning their children in simulated violence.

Beyond simulated violence on television, children are also routinely exposed to violence through Hollywood movies. The violence in movies has dramatically escalated over the past two decades, to the point where movies that are considered PG-13 today would have been rated "R" just twenty years ago.The message? It's okay for children to witness mass murder on the big screen, over and over again, while dosing them up with mind-altering psychiatric drugs that we already know are linked to violent thoughts and suicidal behavior.

It's all fine and dandy to say "it's our sin nature" or "God's will" and throw our hands up in the air but this only serves as an excuse to look away from the things we could and should be doing to reduce violence.

And we wonder why violence is on the rise?

Okay let's say we ban guns then what?

Chinese man attacks 22 children, 1 adult with knife outside primary school.

Case is the latest in a spate of school attacks in China in recent years. Min Yingjun, 36, slashed an elderly woman before zoning in on the schoolchildren, police said. No deaths have been reported.

BEIJING — A knife-wielding man injured 22 children and one adult outside a primary school in central China as students were arriving for classes Friday, police said, the latest in a series of periodic rampage attacks at Chinese schools and kindergartens.

I Believe that Sound an Awful Lot Like....

...the tribulation. Of course, I advocate that Christians will go through a portion of the tribulation, so we may just get to see what you described, if in fact we are not RAPTURED prior to the end of days.

    I REmember those Days....

...the worse thing that happened in our school was someone with a pair of brass knuckles beating up another without the BK's. No one worried about locking doors. And rifles were carried in racks, in plain sight on the back window of a pick up. No one worried that the driver would get out and shoot up the shooping center, school, do a drive by, or be hit with a fit of rage when someone cut them off on the freeway. The worst a person could expect in those days, was the middle finger, and a few choice words.

We live in a society gone mad. And I don't believe the days of old are coming back any time soon, except in heaven. :wavey:

    Same thing here.

It was expected that every young man had a pocket knife. Store owners had a gun in their pocket and/or under the counter at the register. Almost every pickup truck had a gun rack in the back window. Chances are there was also some form of night stick and corn knife under the seat, too. And, men didn't feel the need to roll up the windows and lock the door of their truck when they went into a store. Children, too, were safe while waiting in the car for parents to finish shopping.

I don't believe the days of old are coming back, either. Years ago I remember studies of populations of rats in cages. As long as the numbers were small things were relatively peaceful. As the population in the cage grew chaos grew in proportion. At the tipping point, the stress of over crowding displayed itself, when rats began to kill and eat each other.

Society, today, is much like those rats. Back in the days of unlocked doors at night, we might see 3 or 4 cars and a couple of tractors pass by on our dirt road during a day. Road has been paved, large areas of farm land are now subdivisions, and there's a fast food joint at the main intersection. It replaced an old country store where those folks with gunracks in their trucks would gather around the potbelly stove and share tales of the buck that got away.

In 1974 we came out here to our little piece of God's earth to escape "civilization" in town. The building boom of the 80's & 90's brought "civilization" to us. Now there's a stop kick under the door knob.

Will it get better? No. IMO, it's only going to get worse as the time for our Lord to return draws nearer. There's one sure thing about being an oldtimer, whether Jesus returns or He calls me home, there's not a lot of time left before I can escape "civilization" once more.

That brings to mind something I've heard must be a thousand times now. Whenever a conversation like this comes up someone usually reminds us that the bible says "we are not appointed to wrath" and I think about our brothers and sisters in Christ that are being hunted down and chased out of places like Iraq, Libya and Syria. Wonder if they find this bit of scripture as comforting as we westerners do?

Violent crime is on a downward trend.

"...We are in the midst of an historic and statistically impossible decline in violence in America. The economic downturn, which would be a reasonable reason for a rebound in violent crime, has produced nothing of the sort on a nationwide scale. The experts are flabbergasted as to why, and the assumptions of criminologists are being tested to a great degree. http://vlt.tc/mbo High imprisonment, high tech tools, more disciplined police forces, and cultural factors are all potential reasons. But it is clear that even as guns are available as ever, this has done nothing to drive up crime rates nationwide. And beyond: Steven Pinker has argued, convincingly, that we are at the most peaceful point in human history. http://vlt.tc/mby In the midst of such declines, spikes of mass violence and murder are all the more jarring...."
