Honestly, what happened on that ship WAS shameful and disgusting and I'd rather sit in mud than be on that ship. We were on a cruise once in an inside room. That would mean that we would have had zero light in the room in addition to the feces flowing into the room and the grease leaking down the walls. My husband has sever asthma (he's lost 30% lung capacity from it) and that would mean that we would have to live outside. I know it's warm and it's do-able but they paid for this vacation - and got a nightmare. At least those soldiers are getting paid to do that!

At least those on board did not have anyone firing a M-16 at them.

I would say the vast majority of them will be much for thankful now for what they do have

That about the only thing - but comparing their few days with my brother's time in Afghanistan, I'd rather be with my brother!

For some. For others, they will still always complain.

Perhaps, I don't understand. If that is indeed the case, I apologize.

Your first sentence with the word "shameful" implies that this was a willful act on a part of the cruise line. Especially since it was the first reply to the OP. And, especially with your closing remark.

Watched the news coverage, off and on, over the days they were stranded. Bluntly, from some of the comments of the passengers, they were saying in essence, they were too important for this to happen to them. From some of the comments, these folks have never had to deal with reality during their sheltered lives.

And, even in this "mess" they were still sheltered. While not in ideal circumstances, they still had people trying to look after them. They knew that help was on the way. They knew they would not die of thirst nor hunger. Barring another MAJOR disaster, within a few days, at most, they would be back home.

I'm reminded of a woman interviewed in the early days following Katrina. She was among the first to receive a travel trailer, thus the interview. Instead of being thankful that she had a dry bed to sleep in that night, she was complaining that the air conditioning and telephone had not been hooked up. Hundreds around her still didn't have the comfort of a bed! Nor a flushing toilet and other creature comforts. Yet, she complained about the gift/blessing she'd received.

Reality is that picture of servicemen sitting in mud wondering if they'll live long enough to return home and spend their measly pay. Wondering if they'll ever have the opportunity to hug their loved ones again.

Reality is the stench of a pig parlor that we helped clean to aid a person in need. Reality is having to use an outhouse, in summer, everyday knowing there won't be a lever to tap in a few days.

Reality is those who have starved to death or died of thirst because there was no one to come to their rescue in time. Reality is being thankful there is a slice of onion to go with a piece of bread.

Reality is what is still being experienced by some who lost everything with Sandy. According to a news report I saw, people were still living in makeshift shelter when the NE was buried in snow.

Yes, they paid for their vacation and got a "nightmare". And, they still have their lives! The ship and their bodies aren't lying on the seabed floor. Seeking pleasure with their dollars, they experienced discomfort instead. As far as I know there isn't any God given guarantee that paying money will always result in earthly delights.

Reality is there's no amount of discomfort that can compare to what our Saviour suffered on our behalf. All the riches on earth aren't enough to compare to the price He paid.

To say that they were too important, that's ridiculous.

Actually, food and water were short. Because the services of the boat were not working, they did not have sufficient water and food to feed everyone and passing ships had to send food to the ship because much of the food on this ship was rotting and unuseable. Remember that they were one day away from coming home when this happened on Sunday - and they were not rescued until Friday night so they were not prepared for an extra 4 days on the ship. Additionally, because of the stabilizers no longer functioning, the boat would list in the wind and while it wouldn't list a lot, it is still disconcerting considering it's a large ship and keeping in mind the Costa Concordia. Finally, while they still had shelter, in many cases, the cabins were uninhabitable so they had to stay either on deck or inside the upper levels of the ship - but there was no air circulating so staying inside was uncomfortable.

So yes, they were stranded on a cruise ship - but it was not pleasant conditions. My husband and I were talking and saying that that would be the LAST place I'd want to be stuck. At least on land, you have a chance to get away - to be in control of yourself but in this situation, there was nothing that could be done. I'd rather be able to defecate in the woods in a hole than have to have it washing across my cabin floor.

I'm assuming that you didn't see the words "in essence" when you called my comment "ridiculous".

I did not say that food and water were not in short supply. Please re-read and note the comment on onions and bread.

Evidently I did a poor job of explaining the point that I was trying to make with regards to the first and last sentence of your first post in reply to the OP.
