President Obama and top administration officials are struggling with accuracy in explaining the impact of billions in federal budget cuts known as sequester that kicked in Saturday morning -- even getting called out by a Capitol Hill superintendent about furloughs for support staffers.

Carlos Elias, the Capitol Building superintendent, sent out a memo Friday reminding staffers that the current sequestration plan does not include “reductions in force or furloughs” and that “pay and benefit of each of our employees will not be impacted.”

Though not directly mentioning Obama by name, Elias also said in the memo that a “high-ranking official said employees that clean and maintain the U.S. Capitol will receive a cut in pay.”

Hours before the memo was released, the president, in what appears to be the administration’s attempt to maximize the potential impact of the cuts, said at a press conference: “Starting tomorrow everybody here, all the folks who are cleaning the floors at the Capitol. Now that Congress has left, somebody’s going to be vacuuming and cleaning those floors and throwing out the garbage. They’re going to have less pay. The janitors, the security guards, they just got a pay cut, and they’ve got to figure out how to manage that. That’s real.”

Using "accuracy" and Obama in the same sentence gives me gas pains.

Meaning their predictions of total disaster was nothing more than fearmongering for those ignorant enough to believe him.

    That's 'cause....

....explaining and keeping the story straight is often the most difficult thing to do when we intentionally fabricate stories. :wavey:

And the GOP sits on their thumbs and continue to be obstructionist. They are loosing with this short-sighted political position they have painted themselves into.

Lets see you go into a gas station where the price of gas is $4.00 per gallon ( the owner buys it for $3.90 per gallon). Customers demand the owner sell it for $3.75 a gallon.

That may work for a while - but soon those with a short-sighted position will have painted themselves into a corner.

You must have hit the wrong thread as your reply is completely off topic for this one.

    Blessings.

That is another topic also. Anyway, $4.00 a gallon. Still cheap by what people are paying in many places around the world. $4.00 a gallon, still cheap if you factor in inflation from when I was a kid.

Anyway, the GOP is not doing anything to help. Being obstructionist on everything is not a wise position to paint yourself into. They criticize, but do not come up with any ideas .... and if they did and Obama accepted them, then, like Mitch, they would switch and be against them. Remember Mitch's filibustering against his own idea?

    Spot on!

Talked with an ex Navy man briefly yesterday. He was up in arms at what the Republicans had done to the military. He'd swallowed the bait, hook, line and sinker that Republicans are bringing on DISASTER. Perhaps, he will wake up when his 2 sons have to pay off the credit card. Perhaps, as the Hebrews did when they sold themselves into slavery, so long ago in Egypt.

Thanks for bringing things back on topic after the failed attempt to derail it by another.

Glad to my brother - and as I try to be careful not to hijack threads myself.

Bottom line - it is easy to derail something to take the emphasis off something more important. Right now, our county has a major financial problem. and it can only be corrected by massive cuts - and that basically can be done by ending any un-constitutional spending.

Frankly, I am glad they are being "obstructionist". It's about time.
