The House on Friday will vote to replace ObamaCare with a plan that expands tax breaks for Americans who buy their own insurance, setting the stage for a showdown with Senate Democrats that could push the government toward a partial shutdown at the end of the month.
More than 140 congressional Republicans signed on to the bill to keep the government running at existing funding levels and delay the health care law. Democrats have vowed to oppose that bill, warning the strategy risks a government shutdown, with funding set to expire by Oct. 1.
Under the proposal, Americans who purchase coverage through state-run exchanges can claim a $7,500 deduction against their income and payroll taxes, regardless of the cost of the insurance. Families could deduct $20,000. The plan also increases government funding for high-risk pools.
While I favor defunding, or an outright repeal of, this totally unworkable and bankrupting "health care" plan put forth by the idiot occupier of the White House, this is tilting at windmills, ala Don Quixote. As Bill O'Reilly said last night on his show ...
"There is no way Obamacare is going to be defunded. It is not going to happen."
O'Reilly then spoke to Tea Party Express chair Amy Kremer, who wants to defund the program.
"What you are trying to do...is impossible," he said. "Do you not know that?" He added, "I just think it's destructive to your cause."
This is politics, pure and simple, all for show and it's a bad production at that. The Republicans want to appear they are actually doing something. Well, why didn't they try this as soon as the got control of the House five years ago? Oh, I know, they made pretty noises about doing it then, but never made a serious effort. And why? Because, like O'Reilly, they knew then as he knows now, it is impossible as long as Harry Reid and his cadre of fellow socialists control the Senate.
They may succeed in shutting down the government for a time, but in the end, they will have to cave. They can't leave the government unfunded and in chaos. The socialists know it, and they are counting on it.
