She's whining over nothing. She needs to get a life, move on, stop being offended to easily.
What about all of the government educated kids who grow up sad, poor and have no job?
"No life"? Oh really? So people in other parts of the world have no life? Why not just kill them then - since they are sad, poor and have no life?
I agree with her. I find it disgusting. How about saying something like "I am offered 12 years of education for free. It helps me to have opportunities to make a living and help others."? That has quite the different spin on it.

The code doesn't say everyone outside the U.S. has "no life" nor does it name countries by name, it simply says "Kids in many other countries don't get to go to school ... " True, or not?
It goes on to quite rightly states that "they" (kids in other countries who don't get to go to school) "grow up to be sad, poor, and have no job, no home and no life."
I would defy you to disprove those statements.
So, they have no life? That's interesting. I've met a number of people who have not had 12 years of free education. They have quite a lovely life.

Did they have an education of any kind? Every know someone who didn't. Twenty years in the military, I saw a lot of 'em. They don't have lives. In fact, it is those types that become suicide bombers and are open to the lies of the fanatical mullahs.
There is no doubt it could have been said much different. I do not find the over all intent behind it offensive.
Wow. Just wow. I'll be sure to tell those people that we minister to in other countries who have never set a foot in school that they don't have lives and they will be suicide bombers. Gotcha.

Did you see the children of Vietnam in the 60s and 70s? No, you did not. Living out of garbage cans, finding shelter in discarded shipping crates, many of them orphans and outcasts because the caste-like culture of the people. No, they had no lives. We gave them lives through the Red Cross and ministries that served the orphan population, but up to that point, no, they didn't have lives, and without us, would never have had lives ... most would have dead before the age of 12.
How about the children of Bangladesh, where we flew food in from Navy ships? Ever see them? See the level of poverty in which they existed? No, you did not.
The children of Laos? Cambodia? Heck, rural Colombia or Bolivia? No, you did not. You don't know whereof you speak.

No. I haven't seen them but I've seen the children living in the Managua dump in Nicaragua going through the trash to find something of value. I've seen the girls who were sold for sex to the garbage men so that their parents can have first dibs on the truck to try to find something to eat or sell. I've seen the mothers who have no hope left and I've seen the fathers sitting so drugged up that they don't know what's going on. So yes, I know what I'm talking about.
It's a tough life. But it's a life. They love. They laugh. They have hopes and dreams. I don't feel that anyone has "no life" because life is what we have. People have lived in worse conditions and they've lived in better conditions but to say that if you don't have 12 years of education, you don't have a life is selling God short. Completely short.

The children I'm speaking of have no parents, no family, nothing but their day-to-day existence. Yes, they have no life until someone enters into and gives them the hope, the laughter, the feeling of family and friendship.
Until then, I'm sorry, Ann, they had no life. They were like animals, and their fellow countrymen treated them as such. The ones you speak of had those connections. Perhaps we aren't speaking the same language here, but those that I've seen would have been dead in months or a year or two if not for the rescue afforded them by food, shelter, carrying people, and an education.
Really? Yes - they will die if they are not offered food and medical care. But that shows that they have a life. When we say that a group of people don't have a life because they are not educated, then we are marginalizing them. We are telling another group of people that they don't matter. It's OK if we kill them, ignore them or don't assist in their needs. The child who has "no life" because they are an orphan might as well just die because they have no life. That's a very sad way to look at a human being made in the image of a mighty God.

No, we're telling them their life will improve with education. Good grief, Ann, you sound like Nancy Pelosi! "Marginalize"? Really? As for killing them, you're the one who brought that up. I'm talking not about "life" vs. "death" -- I'm talking about quality of life overall. Perhaps that wasn't clear to you, and that's probably my fault, but I didn't expect such an extreme reaction to what I wrote.
I know quite a few people who have a wonderful life in their eyes (and for some, even to the world) without an education. An education has been proven to not = happiness. I know people who are educated up the wazoo and they are very sad, sad people. So I'd not equate education with happiness or "life". THAT is what I'm saying. And to say that anyone doesn't have a "life" is disgusting to me. These kids who live in the dump - even the girls who have been sold for sex by their own fathers and mothers - have a life and a life worth living. No, they are not in the best circumstances right now but that doesn't have to do with education but it has to do with what is going on in their lives. But they still have a life and are still worthy of Christ's love.
THAT is what gets me about this statement. The far reaching ramifications of telling a child that someone without an education has no life.
