Seminary School Knew Of Pastor Ray Scott Teet's Sexual Misbehavior: Did Nothing [LINK]

Ray Scott Teets, a Pennsylvania pastor arrested Thursday for indecent contact with a minor, had a prior conviction in a child sexual abuse case, which his seminary school was allegedly aware of and did nothing about, according to Maryland attorney Stephen A. Markey III.

Markey told The Huffington Post he personally notified the Kentucky Baptist seminary school Teets attended in the 1990s that Teets had pleaded guilty to child sexual abuse in 1988.

In 1992, a Baltimore judge and jury ordered Teets to pay a 15-year-old female victim $500,000 in punitive damages. Markey said he represented the victim in the civil suit against Teets.

"After the verdict I learned he was in a Baptist school studying to be a minister," Markey said. "I filed a garnishment of any pre-paid tuition that he may have had. I attached to [the request] a copy of the complaint and the verdict that showed he had been convicted of the rape. I did that solely to let them know that they are teaching a rapist –- that they are going to make a rapist a minister. I never heard back from them."

Teets, 66, was arrested in Pennsylvania Thursday and charged with unlawful restraint, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor and luring a child, among other charges.

That infuriates me beyond …… ARG!!!!! :BangHead:

Honestly, the church should come down HARD on these guys - don't they remember the millstone thing?????

Let me tell you - hiding it will NOT happen at my church. Not if I have anything to do with it. You hurt a child, I'll hurt you. Period, end of story.

Why should anyone hold him accountable for his actions? Stop it!!!! 'How dare them'! They should just forgive him! To rebuke him for his actions would only mean those doing so are being judgmental and unforgiving. How dare anyone hold him accountable for his actions! Anyone who does so should eat his or her words. :)

Which Kentucky baptist seminary was it that knew about this behavior and didn't do anything?

There are several Baptist seminaries in Kentucky. Can anyone identify exactly which one this is?

Should he be held accountable for his actions? To repentance? We had a preacher here in town, got busted in the red light district, was on the news, and wasn't the opposite gender either. I'm not saying hang him, I'm saying it is biblical to hold persons responsible, especially in the church. So what does Scripture say about brothers who live this way? Sob and fuggettaboutit? What is the Scriptural mandate? If they want to repent, then restore them, but there is more as well concerning those who live in sin.

I find myself suspicious of the accusations against the unnamed seminary, and wonder why there is no web presence for even a small church, other than a Google map, for "Fallen Timbers Community Church" in Springhill (sp.) Township, Pennsylvania. First, it is "Spring Hill," not one word as HuffPo writes it. Also, it isn't a church, it's a chapel. There's a Facebook page, but virtually nothing on it, except for an "Endless Youth Group" link on the page which is to another nearby ministry not affiliated with this questionable "chapel."

But aside from the phantom chapel, there is the phantom seminary. No one has seen fit to mention it anywhere? And all web links -- every single one of them?? -- go back to HuffPo?? Doesn't anyone besides me find that very odd?

I find Teets absolutely despicable, someone who should be locked up and the key mysteriously lost for eternity. But everything else seems to be an organized effort by an attorney and HuffPo to smear Christianity. I've never seen such a shoddy job of journalism in which facts get left out with no explanation, except where efforts were being made to destroy or damage a person or an institution. The girls, understandably, is not identified, but that is explained by her being a minor at the time of the attacks. So why no explanation for the church and the seminary being unidentified?

It all stinks, if you ask me, and is an effort to denigrate our faith with guilt by association with the name of a sex criminal.

Im sorry.....restore them to what? Not a responsible position in society ,,,especially involving kids. Restore to the Church, then they need to sincerely "Repent" & I would stress that the repentant needs to totally change the behavior. This is an area where allot have gray areas, not black & white. Ive accused another poster for what I consider his black & white viewpoint but I should have clarified my accusations to include conditions of behavior in society (especially those concerning peoples abusing one another) thats a violence. The story of JONAH & NINEVEH is worth discussing here. With Nineveh the lord was gracious & compassionate, slow to anger & abounding in love. But Jonah was reluctant, here is the result of Nineveh's repentance.

    Jonah 3:10

10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Now what was the decree of the King of Nineveh.....

    Jonah 3:6–9

    The People of Nineveh Repent

6 The word reached3 the king of Nineveh, and phe arose from his throne, removed his robe, covered himself with sackcloth, qand sat in ashes. 7 And he issued a proclamation and published through Nineveh, r“By the decree of the king and his nobles: Let neither man nor sbeast, herd nor flock, taste anything. Let them not feed or drink water, 8 but let man and sbeast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God. tLet everyone turn from his evil way and from uthe violence that is in his hands. 9 vWho knows? God may turn and relent wand turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish.”

Note that there was a plea to turn from EVIL WAYS & VIOLENCE.

From my perspective......God was very gracious....he even condemned Jonah for his anger..... Do you have any right to be angry (about His judgement of Nineveh, later do you have any right to be angry about the vine? See we do sonetimes want to play God (Jonah answers god) 'I do, I am angry enough to die."

And here is the Lords response.....4:10-11

10 But the LORD said, "You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. 11 But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?"

Bottom line..... this is all His call, not ours.:godisgood:

The lawyer said he notified the "Kentucky Baptist" school about this man's previous rape of a 15 year old and never heard from them. There aren't many Baptist seminaries in Kentucky. It wouldn't take much for someone to locate which one Teets graduated from.

According to the Census Bureau, there is a Spring Hill in Cambria County, a Springhill Township in Greene County, and a Springhill Township in Fayette County. Which county the church is in – I don’t know. But it wouldn't be hard to find out.

    Fallen Timbers Community Chapel
    112 Fallen Timbers Road
    Springhill, PA
    724-725-1749

Just because it has the word "chapel" in its name doesn't mean it isn't a church with services and membership. Calvary Chapel in Fort Lauderdale is one of the largest churches in America. They have to have 4 services every Sunday morning.

The church was identified. Just because they don't have a website or their website is incomplete/defunct doesn't make it a phantom church. The seminary was a Baptist one in Kentucky.

Yeah, it stinks. If the Kentucky seminary did indeed know that their student had been convicted of raping a 15 year old 6 years prior to his enrolling in their seminary and allowed him to remain and gave him a degree - I have a problem with that.

These men don't change. We know that by now.

Is the Christian faith tarnished by things like this? Yes. Do people love dirty laundry? Yes.

Is this going to stop the move of God as He sees fit? Not in any known universe.

So why did he? Why didn't Huffpo? You're making my case, not your own.

So again, why didn't the Huffpo bother to find out who they were talking about? The only church or chapel that comes up online that I found is the same one that you found, except the city is Point Marion, not Springhill, or Spring Hill, or however you want to write it. There's virtually nothing there. Nada, zilch, zero, goose egg. How many churches regardless of size do you know of like that?

I grew up on a farm in north Missouri, going to a little Baptist church that never had more than 60 members in its existence, and now has fewer than 35. Yet when I enter the name of it on Google, five pages come up with various links that mention the church by name. Do that with Fallen Timbers, and all you get is that address and the Facebook page.

You're missing the point. I'm not disputing the existence of the church. I'm criticizing the accuracy of the reporting in HuffPo. I specifically said that in my post, so I'm a loss to understand why you're giving me a lecture on what constitutes a "chapel" as a church. I know that.

Without further qualification. A vague location, no effort to reach members who might comment regarding their pastor, no standard journalistic procedure to establish the legitimacy of this story. Only an effort to smear an unnamed Baptist seminary which they chose not to investigate, but merely quote a shyster lawyer who called them up to make his claim.

Has it occurred to you this guy paid a diploma mill and put up a sign on a building? That's what it looks like, which hardly makes him or the "seminary" legitimate. But the general public will never know that, they will just choose to believe we as Christians will harbor any kind of pervert as long as he has a Bible in one hand and a collection plate in the other. That is what my post is about, not about defending this scum bag. Somehow, you missed that point as well.

And by the way, some of these men do change. Please don't attempt to be an expert in an area you are not. Darn few of them change, but there are some that do. I don't expect this clown will, however, as I believe he went to a great length and expense to attempt to establish his bonafides so he could begin taking advantage of young girls. And now a lawyer and The Huffington Post are using his crime and perversion to make our faith look compromised. Worse, they succeeded, and posts like yours only help them, not us.

I wasn't trying to be an expert. Brother, I don't know why you have so much of a divisive attitude towards me. We haven't conversed much at all.

You know nothing about me - my experience with pedophiles, both from unfortunate personal experiences as a child and with the experiences of children that I teach and with personal conversations with men like this.

The flesh never changes. A pedophile might be saved. Might repent. Might even never touch a child again - but the desires of the flesh rears its ugly head from time to time and the struggle continues. The flesh knows what it wants. It wants the polar opposite of the Holy Spirit wants.

These men - even if only for their own sanctification after being saved - should never be allowed to work with or be alone with children.

    I wasn't flashing expertise around.

This is true of any sin, no matter what variety. I'm a licensed addictions counselor and a licensed marriage and family counselor -- sorry to "flash my expertise" but there it is. I've done some fairly extensive research into sexual addictions, particularly as it concerns sexual assault of women and of children. I'm not licensed yet to take such clients on, but I know enough about it to know that your classification of them as incurable is inaccurate. There isn't a huge success rate, but there has been some success.

    On that, we agree.

Though it came off sounding as though I was chastising you specifically, I meant it as a more general comment, and my apologies for making it seem personal. I wasn't clear in my plea to everyone to leave the area of counseling and analysis -- such as what there is of that anymore, Freud being largely discredited -- to those who are allowed to do it. What appears to be abnormal and "crazy" to the layperson actually has a logical explanation and can be addressed effectively with behavioral therapy -- though saying that about sexual predators with a preference for any age or gender leaves me a bit queasy, since it take a lot of work and a great deal of desire on their part to change.

    Stepping off now ...
