Gay Roundup in Nigeria!

Nigeria is one of many African nations that oppose gay activities, gay marriage, etc. So today Nigeria arrested over 100 gays under their "Jail the Gays" law.

While I think this is going WAY too far, it is their right to enforce the laws of the people! Still, it scarily ressembles the days of "Witch hunts" or the rounding up of Japanesse families at the beginning of WW2, or even the days of McCarthyism and the great "Red scare!"

It will be quite interesting to watch and observe how the LGBT and GLAAD movements; the ACLU, and other civil rights groups go at countering this. With Russia and the Winter Olympics and their anti-gay thing, it looks like a bad few weeks or months for gays in the somewhat 60+ countries and nations that still hold to this as being unnatural and a sin!

One of the problems faced by the left/liberals/progressives is that they don't believe that there is a universal standard of human rights. One wonders on what basis they would conduct Nuremburg trials nowadays when confronted with the defenses that it was the law of the land that one should obey orders?

The prevailing logic that each nation determines her own laws shows the nonsensical side of cultural diversity. In fact, there can be no human rights outside of Christianity, and the abuse of human rights worldwide proves this point quite well.

In this country, we also see the erosion of human rights as special rights are being bestowed upon abusers to appease ethnic groups (who often threaten violence) for political reasons.

While I have no serious problem with this action, I can't help but wonder who will be next. When will they start rounding up all professing Christians? Of course, such an action would certainly weed out the make-believe "Christians" from the real Christians. Like Peter, I wonder how many believers would deny knowing Christ if faced with torture, imprisonment, and even death.

What I know NOW [Shariah law is involved]....

....is that Nigeria is half Muslim and half Christian, and these gays were rounded up under the Muslim part of the law..."The chairman of Bauchi state Shariah Commission, Mustapha Baba Ilela, said 11 men had been arrested in the past two weeks and charged with belonging to a gay organisation.

He denied anyone had been tortured and said all 11 -- 10 Muslims and a non-Muslim -- signed confessions that they belonged to a gay organisation but that some of them retracted the statements when they were charged by a judge.

This helps to make more sense out of what has gone down. It is not unlike the Muslims to be strict regarding gay sins! Still, it should be interesting to see how this plays out in the headlines in the days and weeks to come!

You know they declassified the hearings, involving McCarthy, right? After the 50 year requirement, the motion was filed the first day, through the FOIA.
You know the KGB admitted that Alger Hiss was on their payrole, don't you?
I couldn't believe the absolute lack of interest in the truth, and the continued sullying of McCarthy's name.
I thought this would spark a revolution.

It isn't the fact that the government is punishing evil doers. That's it's job. The question is what is evil and who are evildoers?

See, I know I have an unpopular opinion here and people will be all over me for saying this, but I tend to think that as long as people aren't hurting others or infringing on others' rights (which pedophilia does) then the law shouldn't get involved. The role of the government should mainly to protect the rights of it's citizens, bring criminals hurting or infringing on the rights of others to justice, but also preserving people's freedom to live their own life and pursuit of happiness.
Because...if you don't trust big government to regulate the economy, why trust it to safeguard morals? It's just going to botch it up and give whoever's in power later on the authority to decide you are immoral for their own purposes and deport or do away with you.

And I'm not saying I approve of homosexuality. I don't. I just don't think the government is the answer.

And my views of the government's role aside--I honestly just find this action on the part of Nigeria's government to be very, very wrong. It's no better than the WBC saying we should round up all the gays in a pen and let them starve to death.

There was a Day When Sodomy was Agin the Law ...

... in most US states, counties and cities! As a child, I once read about a guy in Detriot, where I lived until ten years of age, that a man and women were arrested for engaging in sodomy.

I had to ask my parents what that was, because for some reason it wasn't listed in the dictionary we owned. My parnets told me I shouldn't be reading that stuff, like how could I not read it as I was searching for current events to share in school.

Then they told me it was a disgusting thing some people did to each other! I only found out what it was in high school, when I went though a newer dictionary in the library. I had remembered the word for years, and decided to look it up!

My mom and dad were right ... it was disgusting, and I remember being embarrassed to having looked it up, hoping no one else seen what I was looking at! :type:
