(CNN) –Newly elected Rep. Vance McAllister asked for forgiveness from God, his family and his constituents after a local newspaper published what it said was surveillance video of the married Louisiana Republican making out with a female staffer. The video shows McAllister and the woman passionately kissing in his office last December.

"There's no doubt I've fallen short and I'm asking for forgiveness. I'm asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your (sic) a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed,” McAllister said in a statement.

McAllister is married with five children. The woman, the paper reported, is also married.

McAllister campaigned as a Christian conservative. His friendship with “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson helped draw attention to his long-shot bid for office, and McAllister own deep pockets paid for most of his campaign expenses.

Yep - just another Republican politician touting "family values" and "Christian values" in a grass root effort to win votes.

And ..... in the usual fashion, they get caught with their pants down .... or in this case with his tongue down someone's throat. And they are always so sorry, aren't they - so contrite. So sickeningly apologetic.

The Robertsons didn't get this guy elected. He was taking Rodney Alexander's place and ran on a platform that was the polar opposite of Mary Landrieu. It's bad enough that we have one of her and the people of Louisiana feared another one.

All he did had to do was to appear to espouse the conservative Christian right and he's in like Flinn.

Oh, well - it hasn't been the first time we've had a philanderer represent us and won't be the last.

I just find his words ridiculous.

....."not to just be another politician". Didn't take him long, did it - just four short months.

I do pray for his marriage and his family.

But I have no regard for him personally whatsoever. I don't think this was his first physical contact with this woman.

Why do men in power fall for the lie that they are above reproach in this area and can get away with it?

And when are hypocritical Republicans going to STOP pretending to uphold "family values"? It just makes us look so stupid when everyone sees that we don't uphold morality any more than the average Democrat, Independent, or Tea Partyer does.

I don't think it was either. The camera was set up in his office. Whoever set up the camera (the woman?) likely knew it was going on.

I'm guessing it's the same reason women do it.

Who are the female politicians over the years who've been caught like this after raising the banner for Christian ethics? I'm sure we would see more if there were more female politicians, but we don't.

I'm not talking about men or women in general. In general, both men and women are equally moral or equally immoral.

I'm talking about men with political power and clout finding themselves believing that they are entitled.

What is it about power that makes politicians behave this way once power is granted? You'd think these guys (and maybe a few female politicians) would KNOW from watching the fall of others that this could happen? Why do they think that they are immune from the seduction of power?

Find out the real reasons women cheat, the specific pattern they follow in their affairs and why now ... they're cheating as much as men

Among the facts discovered in years of research ...
    • Currently, women are initiating 70 – 75% of all divorces
    • Women ... feel as though something is missing in their lives.
    • Women ... experience reawakened desire stimulated by an encounter outside the marital relationship.
    • Female infidelity will not only continue to be extremely common but it will also continue to be on the rise.
You might want to reconsider your statement above, though I agree with you 100%, women in power have not been caught -- note I said "caught," not "involved -- in scandalous media-attracting affairs or incidents as often, nor to the degree, as their male counterparts. One of the reasons is women are less impulsive and less likely to let their inhibitions and reason be compromised. They are no less susceptible to sexual infidelity, but they are smarter about it.

Compared with what the Dems justified in the Oval Office, this WAS family values.

Re: the bolded above, I think it's because too many do not have the ability to believe it could "happen to me"!
They are thus totally open to any very subtle temptation that will sink them; totally oblivious to it until too late.

If you just use the term "ethics" a lot of women have showed they think they're above the law.

Maxine Waters…decries the "rich" and their greed…

According to Chuck Neubauer and Ted Rohrlich writing in the LA Times in 2004, Maxine Waters' relatives had made more than $1 million during the preceding eight years by doing business with companies, candidates and causes that Waters had helped. They claimed she and her husband helped a company get government bond business, and her daughter Karen Waters and son Edward Waters have profited from her connections. Waters replied that "They do their business and I do mine."[51]

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) named Waters to its list of corrupt members of Congress in its 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2011 reports. She was accused of using her position to prevail upon officials to meet with OneUnited Bank without disclosing that she and her husband had significant stock holdings in the company.[52] Since she was on the Financial Services Committee she largely had the role of determining where TARP funds would go. 12 Million in TARP funds went to OneUnited without her ever disclosing that she had a financial stake at the company.[53][54][55][56] Citizens Against Government Waste named her the June 2009 Porker of the Month due to her intention to obtain an earmark for the Maxine Waters Employment Preparation Center.[57]

In 2010 Waters came under investigation for ethics violations and was accused by a House panel of at least one ethics violation related to her efforts to help OneUnited Bank, where her husband had been a director and in which he had stock holdings, receive federal aid.[58] Waters' husband is a stockholder and former director of OneUnited Bank and the bank's executives were major contributors to her campaigns. In September 2008, Waters arranged meetings between U.S. Treasury Department officials and OneUnited Bank, so that the bank could plead for federal cash. It had been heavily invested in Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, and its capital was "all but wiped out" after the U.S. government took them over. The bank received $12 million in Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) money.[59][60] The matter was investigated by the House Ethics Committee,[61][62] which charged her with violations of the House's ethics rules in 2010 [1][2][3][4] On September 21, 2012, The House Ethics Committee completed a report clearing Waters of all ethics charges after nearly three years of investigation.[63]

Then, my favorite hypocrite of all….Michelle Bachmann

Eighteen months ago, the Minnesota House member was considered an unlikely but undeniable Republican rising star, winning the Iowa straw poll that unofficially begins the primary season. Today, she is embroiled in a litany of legal proceedings related to her rolling disaster of a presidential campaign—including an Office of Congressional Ethics investigation into campaign improprieties that has not previously been reported.

The Daily Beast has learned that federal investigators are now interviewing former Bachmann campaign staffers nationwide about alleged intentional campaign-finance violations. The investigators are working on behalf of the Office of Congressional Ethics, which probes reported improprieties by House members and their staffs and then can refer cases to the House Ethics Committee.

“I have been interviewed by investigators,” says Peter Waldron, a former Bachmann staffer who’s embroiled in his own fight with his former boss, involving his allegations of pay-to-play politics and improper payments by the campaign—making him one of several members of Bachmann’s inner circle who’ve fallen out with the woman they once hoped would become commander in chief. While he was careful to avoid specifics in regard to the investigating body, Waldron said that “investigators came [and] interviewed me and are interviewing other staff members across the country.”

And then there's Lois Lerner, definitely an entitlement situation, there.

Regardless of political party kissing an aide was stupid. Kissing an aide where there are cameras, and they are all over buildings these days was beyond stupid. Party, gender doesn't matter, it was stupid.

I whole-heartedly agree. And if you are going include the entitlement of arrogance and stupidity, then you forgot Barbara Boxer and Nancy Pelosi.

I remmeber having this very discussion years ago about what I was seeing. In that the women have become the aggressors. They are more prone to initiate than ever before. It's evident in high schools to as the little girls are trying to get the guys to have sex as much as the guys are trying to get them to have sex.

And you can see this trend of women doing what the men used to solely do increasing across the spectrum of women from youth to old age. And good ole Christian conservatives have been leading the way.

We've got enough to deal with from folks who say they are in the church that it's hard to see how we can find the time to point the finger at all at folks outside the church.

    Wow, what a telling thread.

This kind of behaviour (on the part of the Congressman & staffer) only reinforces my belief that Republican "family values" pitches are a smoke-screen and pandering to get votes. Makes me roll my eyes and be thankful I'm an independent.

I've seen the video. It's a security camera that the Congressman should have known about, not a planted camera.

Not only that but the female school teacher that seduces the high school boy is practically a weekly story. Jay Leno used to have a segment on his show every couple of days calling attention to it.
