....he had some pretty good support, but now...

GOP senators condemn rancher's comments on blacks

"Bundy suggested some blacks are “basically on the government subsidy” and might be “better off as slaves” in an interview with The New York Times that was published Wednesday. He also referred to blacks as “the Negro” in the story.

“His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him,” said GOP Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, in a statement released Thursday....."

...he might as well have the Bubonic Plague, or leprosy.

    Well, let's see. Hmmm...

He's Morman. That explains part of it.

But I agree that excessive government welfare has made slaves to the government of millions of people, no matter their race. One could reasonably say that the government holds them in bondage. It's just a different form of slavery.

Although PC seems to require it, I find nothing objectionable about the term, Negro.

But everybody has to object, right?

It's not the words that are the problem. It's what's in his heart.

And I can't see in there.

Did you read the interview link in the article? It's one thing to be tricked or enticed into voicing an opinion, but he voluntarily opens his mouth and inserts the foot:

"“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”...."

....and picking cotton, sheesh, even I know better than to say something like that...

I guess we're safe calling him a "moron" because he don't hold no official title over us…..or something like that ?

Try discussing on this board any of those subjects I listed in a positive manner and see what happens to you.

Or even better, consider what you just said to someone who made that list.

My apologies. As you didn't directly attribute them to any one post, and as they followed my post, I assumed you were responding to me. Sorry about that.

Yea, a filter, that's a good way to put it. I agree with carpro, I don't think he's hateful at heart, don't have a problem with what he said (he could just as well be talking about the third generation welfare white trash right here in Eastern KY), but someone sure needs to be coaching him a little bit if he's going to be in the limelight much more.

Yep. I live near Baltimore. He described a lot of the city, and even one guy I regularly pick up and bring to church. But yeah, definitely could have phrased his thought a bit better.

    OK, A LOT better.

I disagree with what he said, but I'll defend to the death his right to say it.

the liberal media is starting to crucify those who supported the guy. check out yahoo.
but here's what it is to me.
he can be racist as much as he wants to be racist, for all I care.
the issue is not his racism.
the issue is the seeming federal encroachment on his property.
if his racist views (if any) should be a factor, then why the heck do we even allow the KuKluxKlan to host rallies ?

He's saying what he believes to be the truth. He grew up believing certain things and for sure the folks around him probably reinforced it. Now it's his truth.

But what he said ain't got nothing to do with that land.

I'd like to know what, specifically, Rand Paul disagrees with, because I believe Bundy is correct.

Kind of off topic, but I wonder if it were four generations of Native Americans that had been grazing cattle on government land--would the Bureau of Land Management come after them as hot and heavy as they came after Bundy?
