I would refuse to serve anyone like this idiot if I knew they were coming in to do that.

They really are cheap tippers, despite the good service. Try working Sunday mornings! One time a table of dorky christians left 4 dollors on a 75 dollar tab, and told me what a great server I was, gave me a Jesus propaganda leaflet and told me "do you know Jesus loves you?"
Jerks.
I'm a Christian who works in a restaurant in New Orleans and have noticed that what you say is true of Southern Baptists. The others vary like the rest of the general population.

Stats Don't Show that Christians (and Pastors) are Bad Tippers, but We Must Reverse the Stereotype

What percent tip do you leave?
25 - 30%. Doesn't everyone?
madre and I, usually with the grandson in tow, visit four or five restaurants on a regular basis. We are what you would call regulars. We know our waitstaff by name and they know ours. We were doing friendship evangelism before it was a method. How we conduct ourselves in public places says a lot about our practice of faith.
They have a tough job and I feel that Christians have no place making it tougher. Restaurants are a ripe field for evangelism. We have never made a practice of announcing that I was a pastor nor even indicated we were Christians. It does not take long before we're found out. No tracts, no confrontational evangelism methods; just treating hard working folks with dignity and respect. Over the years, we've grown close to many. Not only do they work hard, many are struggling to make ends meet or have significant personal issues. I know of several that have come to the Lord, in part, due to our testimony and a willingness to speak and listen to them.
In one case, we were at one of our favorite places and as we were getting ready to leave our waitress informed us that the owners picked up our tab. We had already budgeted the cost and gave that amount as our tip. Call it providence or coincidence but the amount of the bill was just a few dollars more than the waitress needed to pay the balance of her rent.
That letter in the OP is incredibly stupid regardless of who wrote it. The writer certainly has a right to his or her own opinion on waitstaff pay but shouldn't punish the very people for whom he attempts to advocate.
I tip 20% sometimes more, never less.
That's going to wreck my head if I ever move back. Here restaurants pay a decent wage so tipping is usually a few coins (edited from conks, but that was funny) at the till.
as - you say C4K - there is generally no tipping in Europe ( other than rounding up to the next Euro)
Brief pet peeve diversion![]()
The word euro, in referring to the currency, is not capitalised any more than dollar or yen.
Okay - back to the thread![]()
