The highly influential Acts 29 Network of churches and church planters have removed their co-founder and one-time leader Mark Driscoll from membership. Several pastors on the Acts 29 leadership team sent Driscoll a letter detailing what they called "ungodly and disqualifying behavior," saying they "feel that we have no alternative but to remove you and Mars Hill from membership in Acts 29." You can read the full letter here. On their website, Acts 29 leadership posted:

It is our conviction that the nature of the accusations against Mark, most of which have been confirmed by him, make it untenable and unhelpful to keep Mark and Mars Hill in our network. In taking this action, our prayer is that it will encourage the leadership of Mars Hill to respond in a distinctive and godly manner so that the name of Christ will not continue to be dishonored.

Good....Driscoll is a bad representation of a Christian. The further everyone can distance themselves from him the better. Stick him out to pasture with Westboro.

He will face something worse when his life ends?

If the man does't came to Jesus and repents of his blasphemy, he will face things much worse than removal from Acts 29. And what is even sadder is all the blood of those he has influenced through his preaching, teaching and books! The man, regardless of whether he repents of this fool hearty way of living and speaking, will have an ocean's worth of blood on his hands!

No Driscoll fan here, but . . .

My first impression is that the Acts 29 letter is in the manner of the "men" described in Driscoll's William Wallace rant.

That is a horrible statement and you should apologize for it. Mark Driscoll does need to repent from his sins (which are many), but to equate him with the people from Westboro is not even close.

Blood? Blood? What is with the viscous attitude in this thread? Blood is typically reserved for those who have committed a capital crime. Mark Driscoll, to the best of my understanding, is not guilty of that type of crime. And I am not a Mark Driscoll apologist. I am a critic of his.

Gal 6:1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.

...those attacking are making more of a commentary on themselves than on Driscoll. He should repent, so should they, as they're (those to whom it applies) all on the same ground.

    Well....

Ez. 3:18 says you are wrong. A pastor has a tremendous responsibility to preach sound doctrine. Everything I read on Mark says he preaches what is equal to erotic messages and mocking scripture. How would those who sit at his feet and learn not be misled? I would like to hear your response....

I am taking exception to you saying he has blood on his hands for reasons I gave previously. I agree that Driscoll has crossed the line, even seriously so. Perhaps he does not deserve to be a pastor. But blood on his hands? Bad term.

Have you prayed for this man, petitioning God to be merciful by granting him repentance?

    Take exception all you want....

Ez. 3:18 says differently . If we fail to dissuade others of their sin, their blood is on someones hands. I didn't say it, the prophet did. Also read my original words. I am only
saying what is fact. If he does not repent he will face worse things. Is it my job to pray for him? Yes....have you prayed for him? I have and more so for those under his teaching. His heresy is no worse than WoF, which has messed up many folks too. From what I understand Mark probably would not agree that he is wrong...we see a lot of that right here. And all the prayers are not making a dent, yet!

Driscoll is reaping what he has sown....as will all of us. Pray for this man and his family and the members of Mars Hill.

I would hope that he repents and gets right with the Lord. I also need to repent and get right with the Lord.

Of course he hasn't. But it's essentially the same thing that the majority on here do with The President. It's given lip service because then it justifies saying the things that are said.

For clarification, are you saying that Marc Driscoll isn't a follower of Christ?

I can surely see why you would want clarification! I didn't word that as well as I should or could have.

To answer your question, I do not know the man's heart and whether he is saved. Even so, from what I've read on Mark, and it is a lot, especially the things that come from his mouth and out of his mind and unto paper, the man has fallen away from whatever he once may, or may not have had with God. It is clear he is not preaching a sound doctrine.

In comparision, even in my darkest days, the days where I had walked away from the ministry and tried to leave God behind me, I never proclaimed the things this man has proclaimed, in the name of God!

So, while only God knows Mark's true heart of hearts, the facts are if he doesn't repent of the poor witness from the words he has proclaimed in the name of God, he will, in fact, face much worse things than the judgement of the board members at Acts 29.

If Mark was saved, it is my belief that he will inherit the Kingdom of God. In fact his ability to mix the holy with the profane is simialr to the church mentioned in Revelation 2:18-29, as follows - “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: 19 “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

24 “Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden. 25 But hold fast what you have till I come. 26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations—

    27 ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron;
They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’—
as I also have received from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star.

29 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’

If he is saved, and at the present time he surely does not appear to be preaching a Gospel that glorifies God but rather eroticism - and that is not only my opinion, but the opinion of men closer to Mark than you and I could ever hope to be - then he has some serious repenting to do, and a whole lot of misinformation to fix in order to help those under his preaching, to see that they were misled and not fed the sound Word of God!

He can fix his mistakes, but it is up to him to do. And like I said, I do not even pretend to know the man, so all I can do is look at what he has been disseminating as Gospel truth, and say it is a gross misinterpretation of the truth as we know it to be!

Sorry for the long answer, but I didn't want you to read between the lines and twist what I said around! I have come to know you too well. In fact, I pondered ignoring your question, but in good faith, I answered, and I hope you are satisfied! If not, there is nothing I can do! :BangHead:

His leadership and character are matters for his local church to sort out. This is the ultimate question, and for all our perceived enemies, have you prayed for them? For their church? For his family?

    A great point here Reformed.

It has been long over due. He has shown himself time and time again to lacking the integrity to pastor, much less shepherd other pastors. There have been many attempts to reach out to him, but he has rebuffed them all. He has made himself into more than just a local church pastor, seeking (chasing like a fox after a chicken) out the public spotlight, therefore, public actions require public reaction, which is what the Acts 29 folks have done.

He has been caught, at the very least, lying and being verbally abusive toward staff, for which apologies have been repeatedly been made. There are still questions about fund raising tactics and allocations for church planting that ended up not being used for church planting.

Read one book of his, "Confessions of a Reformission Rev" published in 2006, and could see his fundamentalist, control everything tactics, even wearing blue jeans and sporting the latest hair style.
