A majority of Americans believe the harsh interrogation practices the Central Intelligence Agency used after the 9/11 terrorist attacks were acceptable under the circumstances, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

And a plurality say they'd be acceptable to use in the future to thwart potential terrorist threats.

In the poll, 51 percent say the interrogation practices used during the Bush Era were acceptable, while 28 percent say they went too far and were wrong.

In addition, 45 percent think they should be used in the future, versus 28 percent who disagree.

Harsh tactics are what is done in communist Cuba by the 55 year old dictatorship of the Castros. Americans are not critical of murder if it is committed by committed communists.

Torture REDUCES, rather than protects, American national security:

The head of all U.S. intelligence said:

“The bottom line is these techniques have hurt our image around the world,” [Director of National Intelligence Dennis] Blair said in the statement. “The damage they have done to our interests far outweighed whatever benefit they gave us and they are not essential to our national security.”

A top counter-terrorism expert says torture increases the risk of terrorism (and see this).

One of the top military interrogators said that torture by Americans of innocent Iraqis is the main reason that foreign fighters started fighting against Americans in Iraq in the first place (and see this).

Former counter-terrorism czar Richard A. Clarke says that America’s indefinite detention without trial and abuse of prisoners is a leading Al Qaeda recruiting tool

A former FBI interrogator — who interrogated Al Qaeda suspects — says categorically that torture actually turns people into terrorists
A 30-year veteran of CIA’s operations directorate who rose to the most senior managerial ranks, says:

“This is not just because the old hands overwhelmingly believe that torture doesn’t work — it doesn’t — but also because they know that torture creates more terrorists and fosters more acts of terror than it could possibly neutralize.”

A former US Air Force interrogator said that torture just creates more terrorists

Nice Job Creating Terrorists, You Morons …

We’ve previously noted that many members of ISIS were members of Saddam Hussein’s secular Baath Party who converted to radical Islam in American prisons.

And we’ve documented that torture creates more terrorists. Indeed, Salon notes:

Among the most notable victims of torture was Sayeed Qutb, the founding father of modern political jihadism. His 1964 book, “Milestones,” describes a journey towards radicalization that included rape and torture, sometimes with dogs, in an Egyptian prison. He left jail burning with the determination to wage transnational jihad to destroy these regimes and their backers, calling for war against all those who used these methods against Muslims

    ***

“Milestones” remains one of the Arab world’s most influential books. Indeed, it was the lodestar of Al Qaeda leaders like Ayman Al-Zawahiri (who was also tortured in Egyptian jails) and the late Osama Bin Laden.

In other words, it was torture which drove the founder of modern jihad to terrorism in the first place.

    In other news . . .

The Colorado Department of Corrections will pay $3 million to the family of a mentally ill inmate who died after guards and nurses at the facility for several hours watched his fatal seizures without helping him.

Christopher Lopez, 35, who had bipolar schizoaffective disorder, died at San Carlos correctional facility in Pueblo in March 2013.

The last six hours of Lopez’s life were caught on camera by the staff of the facility, who were laughing and joking while watching the inmate shaking from seizures which turned out fatal.

Lopez died of severe hyponatremia (low sodium-blood levels), which is treatable if medical help comes early enough.

In a highly disturbing video of the incident, Lopez is lying face down on the floor of his cell. The guards believed he was intentionally refusing to respond. Six officers in riot gear eventually dragged him out of his cell, took off his clothes, chained him to a chair and put a mask over his head.
Warning: Readers may find this video disturbing.

Someday it may be your turn.

You are considered to be a bigger threat to "national security" than the foreign jihadists by your own government after all.

Hoorah for torture American style. Okay so we copied the communist Chinese methods but we made it uniquely our own.

We got people to confess didn't we?

    That's all that matters right?

No one? Really? No one has ever been critical of the Castros? Are you sure you want to stand by that statement?

Sure, if you require people to tell you to be honest in your statements, then I'll tell you that: Be honest in your statements. Don't make comments that you know are blatantly false.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. They are evil.

What's not true is your other statement, "No one is critical of the bloody Fidel and Raul Castro and their tortures and murders."

You are critical of them and so am I, so just with the two of us your statement is false.

WASHINGTON — The military trainers who came to Guantánamo Bay in December 2002 based an entire interrogation class on a chart showing the effects of “coercive management techniques” for possible use on prisoners, including “sleep deprivation,” “prolonged constraint,” and “exposure.”

What the trainers did not say, and may not have known, was that their chart had been copied verbatim from a 1957 Air Force study of Chinese Communist techniques used during the Korean War to obtain confessions, many of them false, from American prisoners.

The recycled chart is the latest and most vivid evidence of the way Communist interrogation methods that the United States long described as torture became the basis for interrogations both by the military at the base at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, and by the Central Intelligence Agency.

You are right on about that fact. But let's look how he won the second term?

The second term came with the help of the Community Organizer's ability to garner support from legal immigrants still holding out hope amnesty for their illegal family members; homosexuals who saw ongoing favor and support of their cause by Obama; blacks that blindly love the man because he was black; Hollywood elitist and the greedy corrupt wealthy folks; the entitled who didn't want to lose those entitlements which meant going back to work for a living; and the rebel rousing far left still dreaming of a socialist America.

I give him credit for building a base out of the upperclass; middleclass and lower class debased in society, and it was that group of outcasts and government dependent entitled's that gave him enough votes to keep him in office for one more term!

And that my friends is the rest of the story on how Obama eeked out a second term! :wavey:

The Democrats are trying to say that Americans and Cubans are both using communist/Nazi torture techniques. That is nonsense on stilts.

Actually the experts are saying that. And they are providing some compelling evidence to support what they're saying.

The look under the bed for a democrat defense is getting old. It must be the default talking point "republicans" raise when faced with information they don't want to see or hear.

Look here on pages three and four. http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/national/20080702_1957.pdf Anything in this chart entitled "Communist Coercive Methods For Eliciting Individual Compliance" sound familiar?

WASHINGTON — The program began with Central Intelligence Agency leaders in the grip of an alluring idea: They could get tough in terrorist interrogations without risking legal trouble by adopting a set of methods used on Americans during military training. How could that be torture?

In a series of high-level meetings in 2002, without a single dissent from cabinet members or lawmakers, the United States for the first time officially embraced the brutal methods of interrogation it had always condemned.

Did ya catch that last part? "had always condemned".

That may be true, but it does not make it morally right.

A majority of Germans believed Hitler was right.
A majority of Chinese believed Mao was right.
