Yesterday Gospel music lost one of its most influential singers and writers of our day! I had the privilege of performing alongside Andre on two occasions, plus I was an an acquaintance, and I can say that his music has touched me, blessed and moved me, and I for one will miss him.

I am attaching a few of his songs through links. Take a few minutes to remanence and give thanks to God for this man's love of Jesus and his talent to put that love for the Father into words and song:

Well, I didn't want to be accused of using the term "black"to describe my brother, but Andre was black Gospel. Give a listen to some of the links. If you never heard him, you may remember his songs and like his style.

It seems a few years ago southern gospel actually went to court to be the sole holder of "gospel" music.
I am not able to find anything at the moment - if anyone can, I would appreciate.

I am now on the way to the Dentist....

I used to work at a FM (CCM music) /AM station which played Black Gospel.

I do NOT care for Black Gospel music. Personally, I do not see much difference between Black gospel and Rock and Roll.
Now - I realize that many people like that brand - and therefore I did sell advertising for the black Gospel.

I like singing Crouch's work----I grew up in an era where black folks just were not invited into church at the church I was raised-----but the "powers that be" had no idea that Crouch was black---and us white dudes and dude-etts were singing his black songs in a white church!!(Their loss---our gain)

Its just a matter of taste-----I disdain Country/Western----listening to Country/Western makes me feel like going out and taking a swing at someone or robbing some Wells Fargo bank---doesn't do nothing for me in the positive arena!!!

    But---like they say

    Different strokes for different folks!!!

Did you even give a listen to the links I posted? I am sure you may change your mind. It is more soulful, and not rock.

Crouch's music was highly adaptable, from R&B to contemporary Christian to massed choir.

I'll never forget the Falls Creek choir (about 500 folks) presenting "My Tribute" to a crowd of about 8,000 people back in the early '70s.

I did like a lot of what Andre Crouch did. I was at a bar in Lake Worth (not drinking, just listening to the music) and one thing led to another and it ended up being a kind of open mic night.

I got up and sang four or five songs. I did Ophelia, Tipitina (the Allen Toussaint version, which includes the minor verse...), A Simple Twist of Fate, Soon and Very Soon, and a couple other songs.

By far, the one that got the biggest reaction was Soon and Very Soon.

I was never a huge fan of Bash 'N' The Code. They were a little too bubble gum-my for me. But I did like a lot of things about them and one of the songs I really liked that they did was a cover of Soon and Very Soon.

Shai Linne is about the only rapper I can stand.

Several of his songs have been very helpful in catechizing our children.
