Another of the greats from the old days of baseball has passed on. He had a sweet swing for power, hitting over 500 dingers in his career, putting him up there with some of the very best to ever play ball. And it safe to say he did it's all without the need for or help of hormones.

    RIP Ernie. :tear:

I lived in Cincinnati during the Big Red Machine era and still remember their legendary lineup. I keep hoping Pete will make it into the hall one day while he lives. Love seeing Johnny Bench in commercials even if few people know who is or what he did.

But Chicago's my hometown and I had the privilege to see Erney Banks play many times.
    Probably my favorite Cubs player.

My Dad took me to Chicago once and to Wrigley Field. Ernie Banks was playing and we saw him get a hit late in the game. That must have been approximately 65 years ago.

He was a freak in his day--the power hitting shortstop. The first National Leaguer to win back-to-back MVPs. Rest in peace, Ernie.

I was listening to Public Radio this morning. They were talking about Ernie Banks. The man sounded like the real deal off of the pitch as well as on it. Sounded like a genuinely nice guy.

I agree on Pete and Bench. Both did a ton for baseball, set records that made them two of the best at their positions, and they should be in the MLBHF. That was a great team. The big red machine was unstoppable in their day. Too bad the entire team can't be in the hall? That might be something MLB should consider doing every ten years, placing an entire team in the hall for their contributions as a team to the game?

Where did you get that report? It looks like something that is worth a lot of money.

Years ago, I had two mint condition Ernie Banks cards. One of him at first base, and the other at shortstop. My mom tossed my cards while I was in the army, along with my Lionel train set. She gave them to some charity. Little did either of us realize the future value those cards and the train had. :BangHead:
