Tom Cotton picked apart by Army general over ‘mutinous’ Iran letter Share on Facebook

Do you remember what was done to sailors who participated in a mutiny?

I turned to retired Major Gen. Paul D. Eaton for perspective. He wouldn’t say Cotton and Co. were “traitors,” either. He had a better word.

“I would use the word mutinous,” said Eaton, whose long career includes training Iraqi forces from 2003 to 2004. He is now a senior adviser to VoteVets.org. “I do not believe these senators were trying to sell out America. I do believe they defied the chain of command in what could be construed as an illegal act.” Eaton certainly had stern words for Cotton.

“What Senator Cotton did is a gross breach of discipline, and especially as a veteran of the Army, he should know better,” Eaton told me. “I have no issue with Senator Cotton, or others, voicing their opinion in opposition to any deal to halt Iran’s nuclear progress. Speaking out on these issues is clearly part of his job. But to directly engage a foreign entity, in this way, undermining the strategy and work of our diplomats and our Commander in Chief, strains the very discipline and structure that our foreign relations depend on, to succeed.” The consequences of Cotton’s missive were plainly apparent to Eaton. “The breach of discipline is extremely dangerous, because undermining our diplomatic efforts, at this moment, brings us another step closer to a very costly and perilous war with Iran,” he said.

I'm wondering why Obama doesn't use the letter as a negotiating point? "Hey, look. I've got 47 Senators here that are not happy with the way this treaty is shaping up. You've got to make some concessions so this treaty will hold up after I leave office."

Have you read his letter. He offers nothing to use as a negotiation point. It is simply another Republican saying, "No," and offering nothing to discuss.

Read the letter.

Here's my letter.

Dear Iranian hardliners.

Obama is a liar. Ask his own people. Trust him and you're as foolish as they are.

Sincerely;
The Once-Great Satan.

It was not treason or mutiny when Biden did the same thing to Reagan over a Russian Treaty. It was called the Biden Condition. Democrats can't even see their own hypocrisy.

The Iranian negotiating team can surely see that the Republicans are not happy with the way the negotiations are going. It's implied. The letter could absolutely be used as negotiating leverage. The U.S. team could say, "If you want this agreement to last past January 2017, here are some changes that need to be implemented."

BTW, I didn't see the Republicans saying "No" in that letter. I saw them pointing out how our Constitution works.

Oh, so the Democrats just now noticed that thirty years ago the Biden Condition was a violation of the Logan Act?

They must be improving. It only took six years to figure out what a steaming pile of fertilizer the A.C.A. is.

I'm the optimist here, I guess.

That's not the way he "negotiates". He makes all the concessions, especially to state sponsors of islamic terrorism. Like Iran.
