Just in on FOX. Sgt. Bergdahl will be charged with desertion.

Is this a surprise to you, or did you expect it? And more importantly, will there be political blow-back on Obama for swapping five high ranking terrorists for what has turned out to be a deserter?

    Good news!

He has now officially been charged as opposed to being "investigated".

Of course it's doubtful his trial will occur while Obama is CiC, and that would probably be best. It's likely Obama would pardon him.

I agree with that. I heard he could face a death sentence, but Obama said last week that he is going to begin commuting more people in his last two years. I suspect that statement was said to calm the fears of Bergdahl and his family's concerns over a decision they knew was on the cusp.

And just how does regurgitating an old comment by me provide anything of value to to answering the questions posed here. It just shows how petty you are, and that your hate for me is alive and well.

Try to remain on topic, and not make everything about you attacking me personally. And to quote you, "it's amazing what a small petty mind (your words were research) can do?" :applause:

He should be charged and give the due process of a Court Marshall.

He has now been charged and will (if there is no interference) will stand before a court martial in due time. And the word is martial as in martial arts. It's pronunciation is due to the French used in Anglo-American law.

I have no doubts that the ZERO will try to "pardon" him even before he is convicted of squat.
'Course this is assuming that he (ZERO) hasn't found some way to still be "POTUS" after the end of his present term!!!!!!

A bit off topic, but I would be anxious to see just how long these lemmings continue to support the ZERO should the rapture occur in the very near future, and the restraining hand is removed from him.
No doubt UTOPIAN dreams will suddenly not look quite as bright as now.

Isn't there a waiting period after conviction before someone can be pardoned (or is this just for gubernatorial pardons in some states)?

What difference does it make? As we've been instructed in this thread, Obama will pardon him before conviction. You can write it down as fact.

I'm going to assume that was said completely tongue in cheek.

No I mean the term refers to martial\military law as contrasted to civil law. Though they sound the same marshall and martial are not interchangeable.

I can take a joke, but it's hard to tell on the internet what is serious and what is a joke. I have a bunch of guys around here, who anytime I talk about martial arts instantly say, "I'd just shoot you." To which I always reply, "Okay, pull out your gun now", and the answer is always, "It's in my truck/at my house/etc".

I like to point out that there is no where that I can't take my martial arts.

But I digress. As to the OP, as we are in wartime, Berghdal could be facing the death penalty for desertion. The carnal side of me says he deserves it. But in reality, I'd settle for a forfeiture of back pay (as in he has to pay it back), a reduction in rank to E1, and a dishonorable discharge with a prison sentence to serve the rest of his contract from the time he deserted.
