Arizona Republican Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake and Arizona Republican Rep. Paul Gosar sneaked an attachment to a "must-pass" bill giving sacred Native American land to a foreign mining company. This land has been given special protection since at least 1955. Even President Richard Nixon protected it. Five times Arizona Republicans have tried and failed to give this land to this company. Only by sneaking it into this must-pass bill did they succeed.

Scores of Native American demonstrators protested at the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday against a proposed $6 billion copper mine in Arizona at a site that members of the Apache tribe say is sacred.

The group of Native Americans, called Apache Stronghold, hopes to get lawmakers to repeal a land exchange that paves the way for the project by Resolution Copper Mining. The company is owned by Australian miners Rio Tinto Plc and BHP Billiton Ltd.

When you're equally outraged about the illegal Democrat confiscation of state land, let me know and maybe I'll care what you have to say about this.

Are you a mind reader? How do you know my level of outrage on any other issues?

Thirty-four views so far (1:30 pm CDT) and not one person has denounced the fact that Arizona is forcing the Apache tribe to give up their land so a foreign consortium may mine copper on it.

Why, because the fact that people who vote democrat are fussing about land grabs is hypocritical. Plus, this is nothing but political grandstanding and much ado over nothing just like those protesting the name of of a certain NFL Football team. As far as I'm concerned they can cry rivers of tears of their so called "sacred" land.

How about this- All Indian tribes should become an official nation - no longer American citizens - have their own laws, ect.....

ITL was being sarcastic with the title because he thinks it means something. I would just ignore it.

I can't believe that ITL would use a deceptive title to draw people into a topic or debate, especially since he raked me over the coals earlier this week for doing similar things!

I guess the tree in his eye is much larger than the toothpick in mine, the toothpick he has tried to accuse me of?

Hey brother ITL, better get your own life in order before you give advice to others! :wavey:

Hey just a quick question Ponch, are you more inclined to be a Tory or a Whig?

    From the article Poncho provided:

So the Arizona Republicans aren't actually stealing the sacred land. They are stealing the land next door but that would overly complicate the thread title.

As stated to me in another thread when I complained about inaccurate thread titles:

"Thread titles are not meant to be exhaustive. Your expectation is unrealistic. Deal with the content of the thread and move on. Your complaints are silly and only creates unnecessary strife."

Let me see if I get this. If you create (or use) a thread title that creates unnecessary strife through its inaccuracy it is silly and creates unnecessary strife to point it out.

I'm going for broke. Last year this appropriation/land trade was attached as an amendment to a defense spending bill. If the bill was before Congress how did the Republicans get to vote on it without any word from the other party? There isn't a Republican in the White House to sign anything either.

The Republicans didn't actually steal the land and the land they didn't actually steal is not the sacred land but is next to it. If I read this right the land is not being given to foreigners. It is being exchanged for land already owned by an Austrian mining company lawfully doing business in the US.

I'll stop for now so I do not create any additional silliness and unnecessary strife.

FWIW: That is beautiful landscape and it would be a shame to destroy it even if it would be lawful to do so.

How can any level of government recognize "sacred land" and not be respecting an establishment of religion?

I'm more inclined to look beyond your left vs right paradigm for answers.

    You wouldn't understand.
