President Obama is sending 50 (or less) US spec ops troops to Syria to act as advisors in the fight against Isis. So much for his no boots on the ground promise.

    Advisers eh?

Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said Tuesday that the U.S. will begin "direct action on the ground" against ISIS forces in Iraq and Syria, aiming to intensify pressure on the militants as progress against them remains elusive.

"We won't hold back from supporting capable partners in opportunistic attacks against ISIL, or conducting such missions directly whether by strikes from the air or direct action on the ground," Carter said in testimony before the Senate Armed Services committee, using an alternative name for the militant group.

That is sort of what Clinton did in Libya--send in special forces and CIA in a legalistic attempt to avoid calling them military. At any rate in Syria, we will be up against elite Cuban forces who have been sent to help Assad.

And the neocons that have been planning and scheming for war with Iran and Russia for years are hoping when some of "our troops" get killed or maimed over there you'll be among the first to call for bombing Iran and Russia.

I think it has a good chance of working what do you think?

Anybody that thinks Obama is sending anyone to Syria to fight against ISIS has rocks in their head. He's sending people over there to protect ISIS, overthrow the Assad government and use the death of Americans as a pretext to start an overt war with Syria so the neocons can start their long anticipated destabilization of Iran and Russia.

If he doesn't start a war with China first.

Are there any people in Syria? The diaspora of the population to Europe, seems unending.

Fifty men! Only 50! Obama wants to make an impact in the region and he sends fifty people to clean things up? What a wimp.

I just can't help but feel that we are really sending 50 potential hostages into the Middle East.

Obama's term as president could end as his esteemed predecessor, Jimmy Carter.

You'd heard it here first ... the Administration is covering their exposed backside, because in both Syria and Iraq, we've had boots on the ground, and the brave individuals who stood in those boots have been fighting insurgents for months.

The loss of a MSG last week pried open a door that the WH had hoped would never be opened, and the only way to protect their previous spin of having no boots on the ground is to now put boots on the ground and before another soldier turns up dead, hope the American sheeple weren't counting the months to conclude we've been fighting for longer than what Obama wants us to believe.

Oh this president is a sly one, always playing from behind, and praying to Allah he don't get caught with his hands in the cookie jar.

The truth of what is happening in Syria is probably far beyond what we are being feed in the media (propaganda). My guess is we are getting our foot in the door of war so we don't miss out on the opportunity. Remember war is the biggest generator of prosperity and patriotism for a country.

The Democrats presided over many wars in the 20th century. Would you agree that Obama is a cultural muslim? So we have to imagine what he is trying to think if you can call his foolish and weak leadership a form of thinking. The USA is opposed by many forces in Syria, including elite Cuban forces that are battle-hardened from many wars and many repressions and are manning tanks for which we have no answer. The Democrats don't mind bloodying our military for their political purposes. With the corruption in Washington, it is difficult for me to understand the political/military strategy and, as you point out, we do not know the truth (any more than we know the exact truth about Benghazi after all these years, for example).

I think Syria is being used as the new proxy war for the USA and Russia. Kind of a "live" training battlefield.

How can Obama possibly defeat the Assad forces allied with the Cuban/Russian military? Obama has never shown any liking for military thinking.

Safe zones. It's about the safe zones. The neoconservatives want to protect their proxy army's (ISIS) supply lines.

Obama isn't doing the military thinking. He goes golfing and let's the corporate sponsored think tanks do the military thinking.

That's what think tanks do. They think. The president orders and Congress goes along.

But you don't have to take my word for it. You can read the plan at the Brookings Institute's website.

    http://landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2015/10/us-invasion-of-syria-begins.html?m=1

The Russians have probably read it by now.

When did Congress declare war on Syria? Anyone have a link to the declaration?

It won't be "Obama defeating"; if anything, it will be "Obama's leadership over a coordinated effort"....

You're correct in that Obama doesn't show any tendency toward military thinking. This is political and economic thinking: using the absolute minimum amount of resources to achieve a goal that apparently has nothing to do with military strategy.

Yeah, this does not make any sense to me. It stems from the abandonment of Iraq I guess and the weakness shown in Iraq. I have no idea what the Democrats are doing or why they are doing it. I think that the Democrats are headed for another Little Big Horn.

You guys are a riot. You keep guessing and blaming a "weak' Democrat when the answer is right in front of you.

It's the neoconservatives and their insane drive for world hegemony is what we're seeing.

But hey don't let that mountain of evidence get in the way of your speculations.

Obama’s decision to send Special Forces into Syria is being widely viewed as a US military escalation in the country. The troop dispatch also signals that the US trying to forestall Russian successes in wiping out Washington’s regime-change assets in Syria.

In short, the US Special Forces are being used as “human shields” to curb Russian air strikes against anti-government mercenaries, many of whom are instrumental in Washington’s regime-change objective in Syria.

First of all, we need to view a host of developments, including the hastily convened “peace talks” in Vienna, as a response by the US and its allies to the game-changing military intervention by Russia. That intervention, beginning on September 30, has not only dealt massive blows to militants, it has completely changed the balance of forces to give the Assad government the upper hand in the war against foreign-backed extremists. That, in turn, has sent the US-led powers trying to topple Damascus into disarray.
