ISRAELI LEADER: IRAN MOCKS WWII HOLOCAUST, PREPARES ANOTHER

JERUSALEM (AP) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lashed out at Iran Sunday for staging a Holocaust-themed cartoon contest that mocked the Nazi genocide of six million Jews during World War II and said the Islamic Republic was busy planning for another one.

He's not lying this time. They really are holding a holocaust cartoon contest and there's never been any doubt about Iran's plans for Israel. They've been public and very loud about it for years.

So what do you propose the U.S.should do about it? Someone in Iran making cartoons about Israel, as if we've not serious problems of our own.

You're aware the hardliners lost out big time in the recent elections, right?

Not our problem. I'll leave killing people over cartoons to the muslims.

KY, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. In this case, the contest has been reported by at least one independent source (The Wall Street Journal).

Nope, I'm not missing the point. I think the Iranian contest is at best in very poor taste. At worst, it denies a disaster and perpetuates a murderous world view. And that's without the PM's announcement.

What would you have the prime minister of Israel say about the contest?

He might begin by admitting, "I know I've told some whoppers in the past but this time..."

    Anyway, from the article:

"The denial or questioning of the genocide is widespread in the Middle East..."

"The contest was organized by non-governmental bodies with strong support from Iran’s hard-liners."

Really nothing new here except that in the past the hardliners were dominant within the government. The recent elections took much of their power away and I'm optimistic that it will keep going that direction.

4 reasons Iran's election is a bigger deal than you think

With the current political arrangement with a grand ayatollah in ultimate charge, all I see with Iranian elections is a rearranging of the chairs. Then, there is the Revolutionary Guard, which is a power in and of its self. The non-hardliners (I hesitate to term them moderates) can only take limited action.

I grew up with different fairy tales. I confused this one with the Little Chicken. *laugh*

I was going for understatement. When such a contest is quasi state sponsored, it is much more. Please note the quasi in the previous sentence.
