There are many great names noted in this article, but in my mind, the greatest evangelist in the last 100 years would be, hands down, Billy Graham!

But this is a debate board/forum for a reason, so according to your view of greatness, who do you think was America's greatest Evangelists, ever?

The author of the article has a limited view of Christian history imho. Looks like they just picked out the celebrities and went with them. Frankly, from what we know of Paul, he was a rather ineffective preacher in his day.

For my money, while I still think Rev Graham is one of the greats, I cannot deny that others like Billy Sunday, Sam Jones, DL Moody, and Luis Palau should be seriously considered among others.

Of our country? George Whitefield, who launched the First Great Awakening.

I would agree that the aforementioned article is pretty deficient. Why in the world didn't Chrysostom make the list?

Billy graham would be the most well known, but would say thata great evangelist would have been the one that the Lord used to witness to him and DL Moody!

There are no "great evangelists." There are no "great men of God."

There are only common, ordinary men who have discovered they have a Great God!

would agree with you in a spritual sense God alone is really great, but there have been great women and man used by the Lord in His work, such as in hebrews hall of faith!

Yes, but he preached here. I am reading through his journal right now. He is one of the most extraordinary men of God in recent history. The Lord hasn't raised anything up like this since.

Billy Graham does not get my applause because of his compromise of biblical truth, ecumenism, et. Martyn Lloyd Jones took the right stand with him when asked if he would support his crusade. He told the BG association to get the Roman Catholics out. BG refused.

If you get a chance, read White fields sermon, METHOD OF GRACE...... Its one of my favorites. Also agree with MLJ in his attitude about Ole Billy. I also read his Sermons on SERMON ON THE MOUNT......I read it every morning in fact......enlightening.

Of all time or of today? For today I would have to say Ray Comfort. He has inspired and trained a multitude of laymen to go hit the streets and hit the world for the gospel. As a result of him there have been an increase in open air preachers and street evangelists. Is an evangelist not to equip the saints for the works of the ministry?

The Holy Spirit within the servant of a man of God of the cloth in his humility makes him great... It is not the man of God... It is the attributes of God and Christ in the man... That is why I love the writing of those old theologians... They show man at his lowest and the Godhead at their highest... Those are the credentials for a man of God!... I agree with TC!... With this definition in mind, I'd go with D.L. Moody and R.A. Torrey. Billy Sunday would get my nod but he went off the deep end with his support of Prohibition. I can understand his stand on total abstention. But, Prohibition brought about way too many unintended consequences.

Bob Shuler (although Bob went a little overboard on some things too (not to be confused with the Crystal Cathedral Schuller)) and his son Phil. Glen Schunk. Bob Jones Sr.

Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already.
