It's not just about SCOTUS, but I'm open.

Make the POSITIVE case for Trump, and I'll give it honest consideration. I just don't want to be personally attacked or insulted in the process. Maybe I'll end up voting for Trump. If I do, it won't be because I was harassed into doing so. If anything, that makes me more unlikely.

So please make a positive case. Tell us why Trump would be a good POTUS.

I will say this Calminian is the most positive Trump supporter I've dealt with either here or on Facebook. He is the only one I've interacted with that seems to actually trust him, so I think he is probably the only one that could begin to make a positive Argument for him.

I'll be following this thread to see what happens and maybe I'll be surprised.

That's not a positive case for Trump. A man deserving of the Presidency should be able to stand on his own, not be dependent on being not-Hillary.

I'm hoping to hear from Calminian. He gave me some things to ponder.

Regardless who you vote for, Trump, Clinton, or a third party canidate, someone will be sworn in in January 2017. Now, HilLIARly scares me to death. She is openly liberal, and she and Pocahontas coming out on stage celebrating the slaughtering of unborn babies, who will push leftist SJ down our throats, who will open our borders to ISIS, who covered upon her involvement with Benghazi, who will go full throttle against Christians and their values, imo, Trump is the only choice we, as Christians, have.

Ppl make fun of Trump and his past sins. Look, I am not voting for him to be my next pastor. I am voting for him to be leader of our country. He has many warts, but the thoughts of HilLIARly being our leader? *****shiver*****

"That's not a positive case for Trump."

Sure isn't a negative no matter the spin you choose to place on it. :)

The best thing that I can do is point to some of his policy positions. Many of which make more sense than the DNC positions.

Reduce high corporate taxes, which push jobs overseas. The US nominally has higher corporate taxes than any other developed nation.

Scrap or renegotiate unfair trade deals.

Review Environmental Protection Agency’s rules which force investment in solar energy at the expense of coal and natural gas, raising electricity rates. Both Hillary and Obama have made no secret of their desire to kill the coal industry with regulation.

Bring free market reforms to the healthcare industry and repeal Obamacare (which daily appears to be imploding anyway). Allow the sale of health insurance across state lines, and other commonsense reforms. If the goal of Obamacare was to ensure that low income citizens have coverage, experts (which I am not) say there would have been much simpler ways to do it.

Enforce the border and increase the number of ICE officers. Many large cities have more law enforcement officers than Ice has to enforce our immigration laws. Initiate Nationwide E-verify. Defund sanctuary cities. Illegal aliens in gangs, when apprehended, should be deported.

Increase the prevailing wage for H-1B visa workers. This would force companies to hire US college grads first, rather than bringing in cheaper workers from overseas.

And of course there is the matter of Supreme Court judges. Trump has indicated that he would nominate conservative judges.

The opposition will do none of these things. They are pro-amnesty, pro-Obamacare, among many other positions that I am in disagreement with.

Trump claims to be a Christian believer, and I would not question that. He works hard, he doesn’t smoke or drink. Even his former wife and former girlfriends speak well of him.

    Second that.

My issue with Trump is not his lack of morality or his resume. His authoritarian leanings are what concern me. I see too many similarities to 1930s Germany und today's United States.

I have no problem with these.
I would want to see a solid replacement plan. Selling insurance across state lines is nothing but a red herring. It just would move business to a state with the fewest regulations (like banking and Delaware). It would undercut the ability of a state to make its own regulatory choices. Also, when it goes across state lines, all hope of challenging federal intervention is gone. Interstate commerce would be undeniable. Welcome to Obamacare 2.0 the next time the Dems have control.

I would like to see some aspects of Obamacare stay (no more pre-existing condition exclusions and the Medicaid expansion, primarily), but I do know most of it needs to be fixed or scrapped and replaced.

    No problems here, either.

I'm not sold on SCOTUS, yet. I am not sure he won't just put up a David Souter. He would have to show a willingness to listen to his advisors that I'm not sure he's shown yet. Maybe someone could enlighten me.

Amnesty doesn't bother me, per se. (Reagan did it, too.) But I do think we need to beef up border security. Amnesty makes a lot more sense if the tap is turned off.

On the Christian thing, I don't really know one way or the other. I have my concerns, but I don't want TCassidy calling me out for a stronger stance :).

Imagine Breitbart's Bannon as Trump's chief of staff. Scary.

Saying it's not about SCOTUS is like a man with a heart attack going into the emergency room and someone declaring "It's not just about about the heart attack." Most people don't grasp how important an issue this is, this time.

Trump is far better on all the issues than Hillary. You can look at them on his website, https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/

I disagree with Republicans on neoconservative positions. I support the "Death Tax" (a reasonable alternative to capital gains taxes on estates). I support Obamacare (until the government extensively deregulates the industry, we need the government to pay through insurance companies). I don't support a border wall (most illegal immigrants do or can enter legally). I'm against war (we only cause problems in the middle-east).

To me, the Republican party is worthless, aside from displacing Democrats.

You're wrong. It's almost completely about Scotus.

I do not have much knowledge of the issues involved with the healthcare industry. But then neither did Barack Obama! We do see almost weekly that Insurance companies continue to pull out of the exchanges, and that the ACA is collapsing. Hillary Clinton would certainly continue to pour tax dollars into Obamacare.

Cruz says that Trump asked him for input regarding SC justices. That sounds like a willingness to listen. Hillary would likely put up more Ruth Bader Ginsburgs is my guess.

Yes, get the border under control first.

    Discretion!

Obamacare is the right idea, tax credits to buy insurance. Congress needs to deregulate insurance and medical industries, among other reforms, to lower costs.

Legal entry requires just a cheap passport. How does that jive with your "get the border under control"?

Stop all the tax credits already! Good grief, can't we just go to a flat tax where everyone pays the same percentage? Obamacare is a failure - I did not see a $2500.00 decrease on my premium, in fact it went up!

All this is the Democrats plan to destroy the middle class. They want the rich and the poor. The rich can pay their own way and when there is no middle class EVERYONE else will need some sort of government subsidy.

SCOTUS is not the be-all and end-all of everything, and I think we all know it.

I'm NOT saying Trump is like this, but, for the sake of illustration---

If you KNEW they would put your desired SCOTUS nominees in play, would you consider voting for:

    Augusto Pinochet?
    Benito Mussolini?
    Adolf Hitler?
    Francisco Franco?
    Saddam Hussein?
    Vladimir Putin?
    Hillary Clinton?
    Barack Obama?
    Jimmy Carter?
    Joseph Stalin?
    Mao Zedong?

Of course not. Why? Because it's not just about SCOTUS. The other issues matter, too.

The candidate must be ready to govern well, not just to make nominations if/when they are needed.

Making anything a one-issue vote is a race to the bottom in quality. We have to expect better than the bare minimum.

Lastly, you can't say Trump is "far better on all the issues than Hillary" and support Obamacare. I'm a moderate on healthcare, so I'm not entirely opposed to it in theory (just parts of it, in practice). Trump's "plan" is so thin as to not be one (cf. my post above).

A positive case for Trump? Okay, here goes.

    1. He's not Hillary Clinton
    2. He says he wants to really get control of our borders.
    3. He says he is for the 2nd Amendment
    4. He wants to beef up the military
    5. He wants to be pro-active against terrorists like ISIS
    6. He says he is against nation building
    7. He says he will not accept bad trade deals for us
    8. He will put competent, conservative leaning people into positions of authority
    9. Mike Pence will be his V.P.
    10. His wife is better looking than Hillary
