A firm run by Donald Trump's campaign chairman directly orchestrated a covert Washington lobbying operation on behalf of Ukraine's ruling political party, attempting to sway American public opinion in favor of the country's pro-Russian government, emails obtained by The Associated Press show. Paul Manafort and his deputy, Rick Gates, never disclosed their work as foreign agents as required under federal law.

The lobbying included attempts to gain positive press coverage of Ukrainian officials in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Associated Press. Another goal: undercutting American public sympathy for the imprisoned rival of Ukraine's then-president. At the time, European and American leaders were pressuring Ukraine to free her.

Gates personally directed the work of two prominent Washington lobbying firms in the matter, the emails show. He worked for Manafort's political consulting firm at the time.

Manafort and Gates' activities carry outsized importance, since they have steered Trump's campaign since April. The pair also played a formative role building out Trump's campaign operation after pushing out an early rival. Trump shook up his campaign's organization again this week, but Manafort and Gates retain their titles and much of their influence. The new disclosures about their work come as Trump faces criticism for his friendly overtures to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Could be. The more corrupt they are, the better he likes them. But I don't expect Hillary to lose his vote anytime soon.

Yes, and perhaps Hillary should follow the standard being set.

That "lesser of two evils" and "but...but...but Hillary" rationalization works for many, many issues and events.

yeah. Ain't we all really measuring the nasty points against both candidates to decide who to vote for? Making any statement against either does nothing but show which one ain't voting for.

Oh and what prey tell do you call Hi8llary's involvement in her pay-to-play scheme? He may have exhibited poor judgement in picking Manafort, but at least he got rid of the man when it was discovered! What does Hillary do when she is found with her hands and feet in the proverbial cookie jar? SHE LIES HER READ-END OFF!

It would be so refreshing if you, ctb, and your liberally slanted media friends would report the whole truth and nothing but the truth when it comes to BOTH candidates! Until that day happens, please refrain from posting these kinds of events as if they are BIG NEWS! Just sayin'!

    1. Trump has displayed poor judgement in everyone on his campaign team. What makes you think he would be better in picking people as president?
    2. He didn't get rid of Manafort. Manafort resigned and Trump accepted his resignation. Trump did not use his famous, "You're fired."
    3. It would be refreshing if you would stay on the topic of an OP.
    4. You are defending a man who lies so often he makes Hillary look like a truth teller. Just saying.

Maybe you do, but you lack the ability to know when a person is being sarcastic! Still, if I helped get you off your grouchy couch, and on the path to a new and exciting career in stand up comedy, I feel good! :Roflmao :Biggrin :Rolleyes :Whistling :Roflmao :Sleep

And who else was involved in this pro-Yanukovych work in Ukraine? Why none other than the Podesta Group Inc. John Podesta of course was Obama's former chief of staff, and until recently Hillary Clinton's campaign manager.

The Podesta Group is now under investigation by the FBI and DOJ for their activities in Ukraine. - LINK

I guess the Hillary campaign won't be pointing to this scandal now that it involves some of their own people.

Yet she's the one that partisans on the right want to call crooked, corrupt or say that they don't trust her.

Sounds like pure foolishness to only say those things about her when you honestly look at Trump's alleged dealings with the mob and shady folks in Russia. Wonder how the folks contorting themselves to support him reconcile that?

Not to mention that he's in hock partially to the Bank of China to the tune of 950 million dollars.

Yep, folks should definitely trust him to deal unbiasedly with the Chinese.

Put up, show proof of your allegations that he is involved in Russian mobs, or shut up. Before your mouth sells something as factual, make sure you have the proof to back up what you want us to buy/believe. We know she is a liar. Her lies are being proved every time the footage of her lies are compared with footage of her contradictions.

Still having trouble reading I see. I said alleged. You don't read anything that I wrote that said involved with the mob.

We also know that he is a liar. We know that you're a liar. We know that everyone who has ever told a lie can be called a liar.

    So what's your point?

And Trump's lies are being proven every time he has to backtrack. I.e. that non-existent video of Iran money being transferred.

At one point during 4.6 hours of speeches, Politico found that on average, Trump told a lie one every five minutes. In just one turn hall event, 71 lies.
