Federal judge awards $32.4 million to recipients of Huckabee-voiced robocalls

"In St. Louis on Thursday, U.S. District Judge E. Richard Webber awarded $32.4 million in damages to 3.2 million people who received robocalls in 2012 voiced by former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The calls, which promoted a Christian movie called 'Last Ounce of Courage,' were unsolicited advertisements that violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the judge ruled in August."

Pardon me if I don't shed a tear for those perpetrating robocalls, no matter the ideology or motivation. I hope at least the Huckabee calls weren't preceded by the annoying foghorn that used to accompany cruise ship pimps.

Wow! A whopping $10 per person. After attorney's fees make that $6.65. That was certainly worth all the time, money, and effort! <roll eyes>

I wonder why they didn't just hang up?

I would like to know what other companies that have been find that much for robocalls?
Or is just illegal for Christians to do so?

My wife filed a lawsuit against a company that makes Taxotere, because the drug used in Chemotherapy to fight breast cancer, caused hair loss in her, and in many Women and their hair didn't return... Baldheaded men, well I'm one and that's ok, but baldheaded Women:eek:... That company better fork out mega buck or there will be a baldheaded Woman's revolution, and it won't be pretty:eek::eek::eek:... You heard it here first!... Brother Glen:D

I've got a friend that does telemarketing and he supplements his income by suing robocallers that don't follow the law. While on the phone with them or after they call he tells him he wants to be removed from their list. He documents interactions by recording phone calls, saves emails and faxes. If they continue to call him he sues them. He's got a system down pat where he makes about $10,000 to $12,000 a year in small claims court. At any time of the year he's got a couple of cases active.

As someone who used to work the graveyard shift and had a parent who was terminally ill, I suffered from illegal robocalls to both my landline and cell phone at the rate of a few per hour at one point. I would demand to be removed from whatever list was used to call me and the clueless telemarketers would just tell me "turn off your phone if you don't want the calls."

1) I don't pay for phone service to be called by people who are violating the law since I was on a do not call list.
2) I needed to be available for legitimate and important calls regarding my father's health and any needs that my mother had to take care of him.

The "just hang up" response just doesn't cut it.
