There may soon be a run on sackcloth and ashes. A lot of folk have had troubles ever since advanced degreed, salaried preachers and paid piano players arrived. Local churches do not have this much trouble--more real transparent accountability.

The money changers have invaded the temple again. The love of money runs the world--it is also the root of all evil. King James called it filthy lucre.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

The Moody Bible Institute (MBI) is facing what is arguably one of the most serious crises it’s faced in its 132-year history. In addition to a dramatic financial downturn, which caused the institute to close its Spokane campus and cut nearly one-third of its faculty, MBI leaders are now dealing with allegations that they have betrayed the institute’s mission.

Tomorrow, the Executive Committee of the Moody Bible Institute Board of Trustees is meeting with President Paul Nyquist to discuss extremely serious allegations against his administration. These include:

    • Allowing professors who deny the inerrancy of Scripture to teach at the institute and write curriculum
    • Allowing a professor who supports Planned Parenthood, liberation theology, and a host of other liberal causes to teach at the school, and even spearhead missions conferences
    • Permitting a top education official to violate the institute’s bylaws repeatedly, and openly practice reverse-discrimination
    • Fostering an atmosphere of fear and intimidation, silencing whistleblowers by reprimanding, or even firing them
    • Refusing to allow shared governance with faculty as stipulated by the Higher Learning Commission, which oversees accreditation for Moody

Please tell me what you do for work because evidently, you work for free, and I would like you to work for me for free.

I am retired military, aerospace and social insecurity--a total ward of the State with no 401K or uncertain riches. I majored in stipend, honorarium and entitlements. I have done pro bono work, also worked food banks and thrift stores--for free. I have worked in exchange for goods and services. All of my righteousness is filthy rags. To God be the glory--He is faithful even when we are not.

I know Baptist preachers who work full time secular jobs and receive no money for preaching/pastoring. Their congregations do not use pianos. They do not pass collection plates either. Strange.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Yes, very strange. What in the world does that have to do with Moody?

The area around Moody in Chicago used to be sort of skid row a half century ago. I imagine that it is better now because they are close to Lake Michigan and the Water Tower, just north of the Loop perhaps one EL stop. So that would account for the high cost of property around the university. The declining enrollment didn't help that they made an expensive deal. I hear Moody Radio workdays on my commute to and from work but it is a short commute and I do not hear the lady who lost her job. It may have been more of an expensive deal than it was malfeasance. I know that there are many condos downtown Indianapolis that sell for a million dollars and so Chicago prices would be even more expensive. Incidentally, a million dollars is for the location and the condo itself may be very dreary. I noticed that the news said that this one had a walk-in shower but it leaked. Think what the plumbers in Chicago would get to work on that "luxury" property.

Churches with pianos and offering plates? Now that's something to get worked up about.

Is a Bible institute certificate considered an "advanced degree" by Primitives?

Basic Bible fact: if things turn out bad, we have reaped what we sowed. The same is true for the good.

To God be the glory, great things He has done. It all has to do with who gets the glory. God gets angry when we give the glory to someone else. We live in a mutual admiration society of Narcissists who are trying to be first on a treadmill to oblivion. This attitude has shown up in our ecclesias.

    Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

So it's your considered opinion that advanced degrees, salaried preachers, pianos and collection plates are evidence of sowing bad things?!

I beg to differ with you here.

Sometimes God tests His servants for the purpose of godliness. What bad crop did Abraham sow to have God order Him to kill his only son? How about Job? Was it his sin that caused God to allow Satan to afflict him? Or what about Joseph of the "you meant it for evil but God meant it for good" fame? My friend, sometimes it has nothing to do with what we sow or do not sow. Sometimes it is God's providence at work for His own purpose and after His own counsel.

It is a real simple principle: sow to flesh, reap flesh; sow to spirit, reap spirit. That which is called Christian today has few similarities to New Testament Churches in the Book of Acts.

The reference to Primitive Baptists, etal: they sure have a lot less distractions to carrying out the Great Commission.

Liberalism is a wicked disease...that's what happened to MBI. You can't let one make it in, not one. Have you ever noticed that everytime that something like this happens it's because of liberalism.
Why is it that staff at these school will yield an inch of ground to people that are not Christ like? The minute you become tolerant, you're dead.

None of the things you mentioned are dishonoring to God: salaried pastors, collection plates (offerings), advanced degrees and pianos. You are being absurd.

Not in and of themselves, I agree. Why would a desire to learn more about God and His written revelation, in an academic setting, necessarily reveal a flesh-only attitude? Man looks upon the outward appearance but God looks upon the heart.
