A few Senate democrats break ranks with Schumer to avoid government shutdown...Not enough

Why doesn't McConnell just abolish the rule that sixty votes are needed to pass something in the US Senate and institute majority rule? Government spending and debt are way out of control and both parties have closed their eyes to the decades of red ink. Does anyone believe that the federal debt is worth the paper it is written on?

 

A two edged sword that would cut both ways, I'd rather have the rule.

This is a question I have been wondering about for the past couple of cycles; I'm doing my part to kick him out!
May be wrong, but I look for the next time he's up, he'll be trounced. Hopefully anyway!!!

 

Oh, majority rule would be best for the republic. We are shut down because the Democrats will never make a deal. They want to delay the American people until November in the hopes that somehow they can regain seats and really gridlock the American people. The Democrats have no agenda except to deny the will of the majority and they are willing to use this self-made rule of the Senate. These Senate seats are now national. For example, this Joe Donnelly of Indiana, who is no good, is getting all kinds of money from Hollywood and Silicon Valley to fund his campaign in Indiana, where he is getting almost no money. The pushing aside of the majority rule allows people like Donnelly to be important. It costs the Democrats nothing for him to vote with the GOP so it was pure grandstanding on his part for November. If his vote had been needed, he would have voted Democrat. He is no good.

We should trade mccain and Graham for those first 2 Democrats mentioned here, as both of them tend to side with president more often than those 2 Rhinos do!

 

Russell Moore is a political hack, & one of the main reasons I left a SBC church. His tweet reaffirms to me that I made the right choice.

 

We need rid of murkosky & collins too, can we barter them off? Heh.

 

The S.C. system is rigged to protect incumbents in the primary. There is a huge movement to amend the State Constitution to require a primary win of 50% plus one vote instead of the current system of no run off, largest vote getter take all.

His political statements. The wag the dog results of the last convention. The direction to the left that he provides in his position of leadership. Condemn the ‘alt right’? That’s a pretty sweeping stand. Why not condemn all democrats as their platform is pro choice?! If the SBC will go along with leftist rhetoric, that says to me they are on the wrong path, & I will not support it. They should be in the business of unifying people in the ways of Christ alone. If they step into the politcal divide, then they have lost their way like many other denominations have already done. It saddens me greatly.

 

I don't agree with a lot of what he says, however calling him a hack and leaving a church he is not directly involved in is a rather extreme move. He doesn't represent everyone in the SBC. The average member doesn't even know who he is.

 

He doesn’t represent everyone? Um, yes he does, because of his position. That’s like saying Trump doesn’t represent the United States because he doesn’t represent what every citizen wants. I’m sorry if you find my position extreme. I felt it better to leave than remain & possibly be divisive, because as you say, most probably don’t know the direction of the SBC under such leadership......but maybe they should.
