When Cathy Newman’s absurdly hilarious interview with Jordan Peterson exploded across the internet, it wasn’t just because it was so funny. To a lot of conservatives, myself included, it sounded way too familiar. What we’ve known for a long time, Cathy Newman made blindingly obvious: Liberals really don’t listen. Maybe liberals can’t listen.

I’m seeing again it in a book I’m reading on the history of America’s culture wars. Conservatives’ opposition to new views on morality in the 1910s and 20s was “driven by fear,” the author says. Never mind that when the Pope Pius XI weighed in on the question, his answer was balanced, focused both on the real good that comes for all from true morality, and what dangers may follow upon straying from it. No, it was all “driven by fear.”

Liberals don’t see both sides. In fact, it’s almost as if they can’t. Or maybe we should drop “almost” from that sentence. For there’s some fascinating — and disturbing — research that says conservatives have the ability to understand liberals, but liberals literally can’t understand conservatives.

I think it is a fair observation that a significant number of people in the left wing have limited moral foundations - especially those who are a product of several generations of left wing perspectives. As children, they did not have those morals modeled for them in a consistent way. However, it is an overly simplistic to think that ALL left wing people lack a fuller set of moral foundations. We have to remember that people who live carefully-considered lives often disagree about significant issues, whether they be right-right disagreements, left-left disagreements, moderate-moderate disagreements, left-right disagreements, moderate-left disagreements, or whatever.

However, when there is homogeneity of thought, you can be sure that indoctrination has taken place, either or the right, left, or middle.

They lost the chance which came so close to push us over the line into a quasi-communist/socialist nation with the loss of the 2016 POTUS race.

In addition President Trump is reversing their progressive leftist gains and they are FURIOUS.

Neil Gorsuch is their greatest fear (IMO of course) with perhaps 1 or 2 more Constitutional SCOTUS potential appointments possible.

This is why they are in frantic mode to get rid of him before he does any more harm to their cause.

Romans 1: 18-32 God explains why moral reprobates will not hear nor understand. Regardless of their self-willed and self- imposed stand against righteousness they are without excuse (vs. 20).

Haidt's The Righteous Mind (quoted in the OP's link) is a worthwhile read. However, I wish that link had identified the author of this gem that was quoted therein:

(...the New York theater critic who wrote, “Republicans don’t believe in the imagination, partly because so few of them have one, but mostly because it gets in the way of their chosen work, which is to destroy the human race and the planet. … I personally think they should be exterminated before they cause any more harm).”

Imagine the protests, firing, death threats that would follow if a conservative with similar access to the public forum had written something similar about liberals/democrats.

    That idiot was Michael Feingold.

However, you can't honestly make him the spokesperson for the left any more than the left can cherry-pick a right-wing nut as a representative of the right.

Agreed that he's not the spokesman for the left, but IMO his hyperbolic vilification of Republicans in general and the Bush family in particular seem to make him a spokesman for that side of the spectrum.
