I am not knowledgeable of the backstory here. Is there a reason why Platt is stepping down?

When he was offered the presidency several years ago, David Platt assured that he would be full-time at the IMB:

    Transcript: David Platt press conference

Asked about his "taking full-time role as the president of the IMB," Platt responded that he would be stepping down as pastor of The Church at Brook Hills, assuring: "my full energies will shift to full-on IMB."

But Platt decided to return to the pastorate last year, accepting a call from McLean Bible Church; however, he wanted to keep his position at the mission board as well:

David Platt ‘all in’ as IMB president as he accepts teaching pastor role

Then late last year, IMB trustees said they would be evaluating Platt's performance over several months...

The mission board's legal guy who previously worked for the 'Becket Fund for Religious Liberty' was filing briefs under the aegis of the SBC entity without proper oversight:

"Radical" is a legalistic nightmare, which has likely screwed up many young adults, as my second reason.

    I'm sorry to hear that.

I'm a bit older, so for me it was Keith Green, with a similar message, who helped shipwrecked my faith (for years).

Hmmm...i'm not familiar with Keith Green.

My friend, and dear brother, left Platt's church actually. Decided to start a Mini "Acts 2" fellowship and "share wages" and it turned into a mess.

Back in the day, CCM comprised of Amy Grant and Keith Green (slight exaggeration)

    "Share wages?" Live communally?

    That's nuts.

I know that someone will point out something about the early church, but we only hear the beginning, not the end, of that story.

Yea it was weird. He was like the elder of a 4-6 family group, meeting in the home, reevaluating church polity, living communally, etc. It wound up getting super divisive and everyone separating.

It could end no other way: "Let your foot seldom be in your neighbor’s house, Or he will become tired of you and hate you."

Also, private property rights are so important to God that He made a commandment protecting them: "You shall not steal". You can't steal if no one owns anything.

I wouldn't think the Amicus Brief and Platt's apology figure in as a major factor of his resignation, but that's just my idea.
And here's an opinion piece from the opposite end of spectrum from SBC Voices, SBC Today:
    Wanted: Experienced, Full-Time IMB President
