So much better to let the wife stay at home with the infants until they are old enough to attend church - 8 years out of church shouldn't bother her too much. [/sarcasm]

If the church nursery is nasty and spreads sickness a problem exists that needs a solution!

Its common in churches in this area. Bring the babies to church and keep them in the sanctuary. The only complaints I have heard have been from families who moved membership to our church because the big church in town does not allow anyone under 13 in the worship service.

Well, remember that Hannah stayed home from the temple with Samuel until he was weaned.

Any different than the pews and things that are right where the child sits? How about the floor where mom puts baby to sit and play? And when the child gets older, they go to school where....there are germs.

Like RevMitchell, our church cleans all of the nursery regularly. We have hospital grade wipes that are used on all hard surfaces and all small toys are put in the sink with dish soap and a touch of sanitizer (that is used in commercial kitchens for eating utensils) to soak while the room is wiped down and the floor vacuumed. I would say that anything in our nursery is pretty much sterile by the time the nursery workers leave at the end of the day.

that’s the code for my 2year old granddaughters favorite color and her favorite emoticon.

The church I attend has been trying to reach out to young families.
For the past years the number of young families has increased significantly.
As a consequence we have a large number of babies.
Two or three infants in the service isn’t unusual but can be distracting at times.
Any more and the pastor could probably repeat his sermon the following week and we’d not recognize it.

Nursery and Sunday School for youth are services that many families value.
If done well the lessons become foundational in a young persons development.

We have a nursery, a toddlers room and a 252 service for the kiddos.

    Works fine.

According to a search, this is unicode for Pile of Poo, Smiling emoji, or Smiling Pile of Poo, which is used to convey dissatisfaction. All news to me! [IMG]

Over the years, I've been involved with churches in either camp. My home church has the traditional nursery/Sunday School/Beginners' Church/Junior Church structure. The Russian Evangelical Christian-Baptist churches I have attended don't (at least on Sundays). Both churches have crying rooms off the main auditorium.

If your nursery is truly sanitized and not just "cleaned", you are an exception. Every kid in the nursery at one of the big churches in a neighboring county got foot and mouth disease. A pediatrician in town that happened to be the Dr. For about a third of the kids figured it out.
Do you sanitize your toys? Books? Chairs (top and bottom)? Tables (top and bottom)? Shelves? All play structures? Balls? Floors? Babybeds (especially rails and slats)?

I can't answer for Revmitchell but I can answer for us. Yes, every time the nursery is used and with hospital grade sanitizing.

As a mom of 4 kids, I appreciated being able to keep my kids with me in church at times, use the nursing room at times and to utilize the nursery as well. I loved that my children grew up with other dear sweet saints to help to teach them the Word of God in a way that they would understand while I got a little more meat in the church service. I love that we can look back and see pictures of my kids and their friends as infants and toddlers and preschoolers in classes together and knowing that they continue to be together today, growing in the Lord. I love Mrs. Bruno who taught all 4 of my kids in Sunday school and preschool and how much she loved the kids. An old Italian grandma who would hug those kids to within an inch of their life - and they never doubted that the people who I left them with loved them. Church nurseries, nursing rooms, "crying rooms", family rooms, Sunday school and youth groups are all a blessing when done well - and we have experienced them done well.

I laugh at the idea that that some how sending your child off with a person to play is somehow beneficial to them. Getting them used to the church, pastor, hearing the teachings of god is what it is about. I have talked many a as pastor that has said that one of the things that has hurt their church is children's programs.

Sure putting a kids in a class away from the church is a great way to have them bond with the church! (Not) Keep them in it till they are 18 like most big churches do and they will never come back. How about do like we do with everything we teach our kids? Have them start young? Do you think 100 years ago all these churches were packing their kids into classes away from the preaching? Damning them to hell if you ask me. My boys sit in the pews and say amen. My five year old can give the gospel.

Revmitchell do you go by Reverend? Just wondering what that is about.....also, you might have the first church that formally disinfects their nursery. Most never do and they are sick factories.

What prevents a teacher from teaching the children about Jesus - on a level they can understand. Sure, there may be toys - but keep in mind that young children have a short attention span. Even when the children are playing - they can be singing "Jesus Loves Me"
