Holy communists, Batman! You might want to add Howard Zinn's A People's History of America to your reading list. Especially chapter 21.
The day I need Zinn to explain things to me, is the day they'll be shoveling dirt onto my coffin.

Holy communists, Batman!

I was flinging the term communist at Zinn, not you. I apologize if it appeared otherwise.Yes, you do need people like Zinn to explain things to you. Or you can just keep feeding on one-sided newsfeeds, like Fox News, etc. Our history is more complicated than you seem to think.
BTW, I am not commmunist. It is typical kneejerk reaction to see any criticism of the US as communist or socialist. There are whole sordid sections of our history that you will be forever clueless about because it is outside your self-imposed bubble.

As for my bubble, my BA was in History. I'm well aware that Marx was as much a historian as an economist, and that Zinn follows Marx's philosophy in his People's History. This isn't a knee jerk reaction, it's the truth.
There are plenty of other places to get an unvarnished view of American history without resorting to a hack like Zinn.
You'll get no disagreement from me that Obama's policies have been horrible. But Trump is no better. He is just blundering in different ways. I knew that when Bolton came back into circulation that we were going to have the same type of interventionism America has been doing in the past.
If Trump was half the warrior for righteousness that misguided Christians take him for he would have at least spoken out against the massacre of Christians in the middle belt countries of Africa or, for that matter, the Christians in Palestine.
You justified Russia in Syria and then changed your tune when you were caught in the fact that Obama let Russia into Syria. Now you are trying to smear Trump again, presumably to prop up communism in Latin America. There is no American intervention in Venezuela and you charge is false.
I don't think that it is Christians who are misguided as you call us but you who are trying to smear everyone for your leftist/socialist/communist ends. Your allusion to Christians in Palestine gives you away for what you are. It is your side that went nuts over New Zealand, which the Muslims are now saying was caused by the Jews, and it was the Christians, whom you dislike, who died in Nigeria and got nothing from your side.
Check the Oxford History of the United States, in 11 volumes.OK, I take back the bubble part. But I do believe you are wrong on Zinn. I have read his History, along with a whole gamut of other sources. I have taught history for many years and have had my views changed the more I studied. In fact I lost my teaching job in Texas years ago because of my changed views.
I strongly dislike the red-white-and-blue blinders that many Christians have concerning their own country.
I am not as concerned with Zinn's philosophy as I am with his actual reportage. There are incidents in our history that I had never previously read about except in Zinn's work. Or, come to think of it, Purnell's History of the 20th Century. Surely those whose politics or philosophy may be suspect still do us the favor of pointing out inconsistencies in our beliefs that our like-minded colleagues wouldn't.

Wow. Now that is a rant. I have no idea what you are talking about.
For the record: I never justified Russia's involvement in Syria. Neither country has business in that country. And when I refer to Christians in Palestine I am referring to actual believers there who have placed their faith in Christ. I am not writing vaguely.
I have no idea what you mean by "my side". But it does tell me that you have a simplistic view of world affairs if you are able to simplify everything into "us and them".
Is this I call that a rant more of your Christians are misguided stuff?
??
This is so ungrammatical that I can't understand it. Maybe a cat walked over your keyboard.
You do have a difficult time understanding things, don't you? And you call Christians "misguided"?
As the USSR, Russia’s business in Central and South America was to spread and prop up godless socialism with the promise of godless communism and to gain a great foothold against those who oppose godless socialism because they know what godless communism really is. What business does it have there now, if not the same godless interests? It's funny why this is such a big deal for many when we have our forces in Syria and other countries right close to Russia. As if that was not also intrusion.

I am not trying to defend Russia's actions or intentions in the Americas. That is not the issue. My point was that our country has no right to complain about their exploits and exploitation in our hemisphere when we are pretty much doing the same thing right by their front door.
The US is hypocritical when we talk about defending freedoms abroad. We are not defending freedoms. We are taking them away. I can think of a handful of countries where we made a big deal about free elections and then, when it came to the actual election and it became obvious that they were going to choose the wrong candidate. we move in and install our puppet. It happened in Vietnam in the 50s and in Central America also.
So which is worse: Godless communism or godless exploitive militarism?
Nothing true in this post
Cognitive dissonance at work.
Are you saying those events did not happen?
A book that might do you some good is A Bright Shining Lie. by John Paul Vann
I wouldn't want to waste my time reading a "one-sided" book.
Judging by your comments, you have already been doing just that.
Well I suppose I could say the same thing of you.
