Putin is "testing the waters" by making the first move.

He wants to see what Trump will do.

    The chess game has begun.

The Cubans are in trouble in Venezuela. Mary Anastasia O'Grady, the Wall Street Journal's expert on Latin America, thinks that Maduro has been told by Raul Castro that he cannot run away but must stay in place. That's like a death sentence. The Russians had already sent in 400 special troops and now they had to send in even more. Maduro might now be able to hang on but it is clear that he has no political support left.

Who does she say has to stay in place? Maduro or Raul. Why?

Can Maduro escape on the Russian plane?

    Thanks! Good questions!

Mary Anastasia O'Grady said on Fox Business around Feb 19 that Raul Castro told Maduro that if he tries to run the Cubans will kill him. Maduro is probably a prisoner of his elite Cuban bodyguards.

The Cubans want to hold on in Venezuela, perhaps of getting more oil for themselves. Cuban income is sketchy.

O'Grady also said that for many years Hezbollah has been on Venezuela and other Latin countries. They hold Venezuelan passports.

We know, for example, that Argentina has had connections to Muslim terrorists since the two Iranian terror attacks against Argentine Jews in Buenos Aires in the 1990s. Remember Juan Peron was a fascist/socialist and Peronists have dominated Argentina since the days of Mussolini. Many people on Argentina are Italian as is the Pope and the Italians in Argentina have been the dominant fascists. Peron was Italian. So Latin America is a hot mess of fascism, communism, socialism, drug trafficking, sex tourism, Islamic pyschopathic jihadis, arms dealing, and Russian, Chinese, North Korean, and Iranian influence.

The Russians are sending in troops and supplies. My guess is that they might be sending in engineers to restart the oil wells that Maduro ran into the ground by replacing engineers with communist party hacks.

The Russians are losing a lot of money in Cuba. They recently forgave a 30 billion dollar loan that the Cubans would never have repaid. Now all this money in Venezuela is coming out of Russian pockets.

Hmm, I need to catch up on my Central and South America reading.

    You recommend Mary Anastasia O'Grady?

Mary Anastasia O'Grady may be the leading US expert on Latin America. She writes for the Wall Street Journal so her articles are all behind a paywall, unfortunately.

Another clearinghouse website is Babalu Blog, an American Cuban dissident (anti-communist) site. There used to be Fausta's Blog but she became ill about a year ago and has not been well enough to write recently. Fausta describes Latin America as a dumpster fire.

It's funny why this is such a big deal for many when we have our forces in Syria and other countries right close to Russia. As if that was not also intrusion.

Our foreign policy may or may not be hypocritical but it isn't in this case.

Actually we have been in a cold or silent war with Russia since WWII.
Over 50 years ago when I was in the military in an EDP Intelligence unit there was constant espionage, collusion, treason you name it. Also information (real or manufactured) was both leaked or stolen from each other.

We never will be at peace with Russia until Jesus rules upon the earth.
Soon the mushroom clouds will appear. IMO.
If you can (maybe you already have) watch the movie Dr Strangelove.

    We'll meet again
    Don't know where
    Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day
    Keep smiling through
    Just like you always do
'Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away

A 60 megaton nuclear device detonation at the right distance looks exactly like a sunrise even at midnight.

We shouldn't blame either side but pray for mercy.

If it weren't for the idiotic policies of Obama, Russia and Cuba would not have been in Syria now.

How is this not hypocritical? Because Trump is on board with this?

The difference was that Isis is there. However, Trump wants us out as soon as possible.

You'll get no disagreement from me that Obama's policies have been horrible. But Trump is no better. He is just blundering in different ways. I knew that when Bolton came back into circulation that we were going to have the same type of interventionism America has been doing in the past.

If Trump was half the warrior for righteousness that misguided Christians take him for he would have at least spoken out against the massacre of Christians in the middle belt countries of Africa or, for that matter, the Christians in Palestine.

You might want to add Howard Zinn's A People's History of America to your reading list. Especially chapter 21.

You cannot trust anything that Trump says. Or have you forgotten some of his campaign promises? He is not devious like Obama was. I think he made several promises that he intended to bring about (maybe) but his handlers are the real power.

Baloney, he has kept most of his promises and has accomplished far more than other Presidents at this point in their Presidency.
