Teacher takes book from student

The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District has responded to complaints about restrictions on Bible reading at Hamilton Elementary School saying that during "read to myself" time, the student is only allowed to read a book that he/she can comprehend. Apparently a second-grade teacher didn't believe that the Bible met that criteria.
My child would have been removed from this disturbed individual's class and his/her competence to teach small children questioned.

There is a battle going on for our children and grandchildren. It's about 50 times worse in Britain:

My son is on second grade. He reads and comprehends the HCSB quite well.
The administrators at his school hate to see me coming.
I doubt it. Most of the principals at that district would attend your local church.
Do any of you'all know what Texas public schools are like?
This is more likely to be a misunderstanding than an effort to root out the Bible.
Texas and Britain aren't even close. Now if you're talking about California . . .
I hear you, my daughter was explaining theology to her gifted class teacher by 3rd grade. Obviously the teacher in this instance had dislike for the Bible and was forcing his/her opinions on someone else's small child and I would consider it bullying them with an abuse of authority.
We had a nice dust up earlier in the year.

Cy-Fair school is in the Houston Metropolitan area. I have no personal knowledge of how they might fall on the conservative to liberal scale. Texas public schools vary a lot from place to place. There are those teachers and administrators who certainly would like to root out the Bible. Probably the majority, though, are those who misunderstand the relationship between school and religion, or are just running scared of threats against them by the irreligious.
One school (campus) that I know of got a lot of push-back for letting the Gideons give out Bibles to students, even though it was voluntary (IOW, students went and got one if they wanted one). I think there was a threat of a lawsuit that never materialized. It nevertheless made the district gun-shy. A church was paying for some of the book covers used in this same district, which would have the Ten Commandments and such like on them. After the Gideon incident they decided not to use the book covers. A lot of this depends on the administration, and whether they might want to just take the "easy" route with the least conflict.
I notice this story goes all the way back to 2014. I was unable to find how the situation was resolved. My guess is that a letter from Liberty Institute and parental unrest caused the campus to allow the student to read the Bible in during the "read to myself" session. But that is only a guess.
