The Brits burnt Joan of Arc so why are you lecturing us?
The English burnt Joan, not the "Brits." Scotland was still a free and independent kingdom at the time.

Not the English but the Normans who have controlled England since 1066 & kept the Celts, Saxons & English in subjection. They were Norman French claiming the French throne.

You do realize that when one volcano blows intense amounts of bad stuff is released into the air, right? It is our Creator who should be worshipped, not the created.

Of course we realise that but it doesn't justify ignoring or adding the problem. I switch off a light & America drops a bomb.

I moved to London in 1961, before the "Clean Air Act" prohibited coal burning on open fires. We had intense black fogs where we could hardly see the ground we were walking on. One act of Parliament made an immediate difference.

Another thing I am aware of - decades ago when we went to the country & looked at the night sky, stars were in abundance, & the Milky Way looked like thick cream. Now we live in the country, more than 10 miles from a town, the night sky is not as I remember it. Pollution is high above us.

While you are all attacking a little girl, try listening to a guy who's my age & has spent a lifetime singing out over a wide range of issues. Here's his contribution to the fracking debate. All the words are printed below the video.
Look, they brainwash a little girl, who “progresses” to this state at which point they parade her onto the world stage as if she has a message. Their methods are detestable, but a great many others can’t see it because they are either taken in by the little girl or are already themselves brainwashed.

They are now working on the same sort of thing with LGBTQ, another leftist-progressive “ideal,” which they also try to defend with biblical principles. If someone similarly tries to put forth an abortion survivor, will the leftist-progressives accord them the same sort of respect they expect for their brainwashed specimens? Not on your life, or the lives of the unborn. Just ask the 60 million “legally” murdered in America alone. Oh, wait, you can’t. They’re already dead. So much for your leftist-progressive biblical principles.

It's Biblical to be "leftist-progressive." The resultant "political gain" is beneficial to the people in general, rather than those "rightist-capitalists" concerned only for their own profits.

Pretty blatant stereotyping there. In the US, "leftist-progressive" means, more than anything else, more government control of people's lives, and seems less about being "beneficial to the people in general" than about amassing centralized power. Unfortunately, many "rightist-capitalists" also look for government intervention, to protect their own financial interests. Neither objective fits my idea of biblical.
Capitalism has many shortcomings, but I look at it in the vein of a quote about democracy (by Churchill?), saying that democracy is a messy and unwieldy system of government. It's only grace is that it's not as bad as everything else that's been tried. (I wouldn't take capitalism that far - I'm not sufficiently knowledgeable about world economic systems to claim it's the best ever tried, but it beats a lot of systems which have been tried over the past 200 years.)

Capitalism means that the rich control the economy for their own benefit. As they own the land & properties, they employ the poor to work for them. The poor have no choice but to comply. Also the poor have no redress to law, as the lawyers are rich & need to be paid. The health of the poor suffers as health care has to be paid for.

The landowners of the great estates - inherited down the generations - controlled the land for their benefit, including reserving common areas for hunting, so that if a poor man caught a rabbit for his family he was stealing. Vast numbers of desperate poor had no livelihood & were transported as criminals to Australia & other countries.

They hang the man & flog the woman
who steal a goose from off the common,
but leave the greater villain loose
who steals the common from the goose.

Socialism is a state organised collective system whereby people pay taxes that are used to provide services for those in need. The rich are not impoverished - they pay out of their wealth. A healthy, contented work force benefits the rich. Some factory owners in Britain built housing for their employees.

Americans need to visit the UK so that they can see with their own eyes exactly what a step down looks like up close. Americans keep forgetting that one needs a police state to obtain the lower standard of living that the UK enjoys. Of course, if you want to trade freedom for a lower standard of living, then the UK is a step ahead of us because they don't have a Bill of Rights. But then France and Germany don't have a Bill of Rights either so that proves that you don't miss what you never had ever. If you like Europe's step down life, then you might try falling off the cliff by visiting a Muslim nation.

That's quite the deconstructive definition of capitalism. At its most basic, capitalism is the accumulation of funds (capital) in order to start a business, and the basic purpose of starting that business is to provide goods and/or services that people will want/need and be willing to purchase, thereby allowing the entrepreneur to support oneself and (if any) dependents. What you describe above is more akin to feudalism. It's also, unfortunately, how too many businesses are run nowadays. Most of today's "socialist" countries are really hybrids of socialism and capitalism, the Nordic counties being good examples. Purely socialist economies are thankfully rare.
Socialism seems to inevitably lead to top-down direction of enterprise by the government, with entrepreneurship often (not always) mostly suppressed.

UK police don't need to carry guns. We have a friendly relationship with our police. Have you lived in the UK - I have & am.

Having seen both socialism and capitalism, I will choose capitalism every time.

While I choose Socialism. Growing up after WW2 we enjoyed the opportunities our parents didn't have under the old capitalism where money gave power & medical care, education & favourable openings into employment.

Our post war socialism gave us the National Health Service, free higher education, university grants, council housing (beginning with an emergency prefab housing scheme,) pensions, all paid for out of taxes paid by those earning adequately.

Nationalised industries meant our essential services were run for the benefit of the community, rather than for a commercial profit.

The capitalism since 1980 has sold off our resources, including industries & transport, so they are run at a profit without caring for the consumer. Health care specialities have been privatised, so that the expertise has to be bought in, rather than staying with hospital staff. Rented housing for young couples is not affordable at a price within basic wages.

We like our cops, too, but we have a huge criminal element that likes to murder cops so we arm them and we arm ourselves so that we don't end up with a police state like you have. We remember when you tried to disarm us and leave us at the mercy of the French and the savages. We beat you during the Revolution of 1776 and we beat you in the Battle of New Orleans when you kept charging our lines and we shot you down.

We know what you did after WW II. You consumed all the capital that you could find on yourselves and ran you industries with government control.

That is the reason that you are a step down from the USA because you have too much welfare. Your medical system is second-rate and your doctors are paupers, government employees for life with low salaries. People say that London has an inadequate sewer system. You have a high murder rate in London and I guess your unarmed police are just statisticians. Your prisons are apparently very poor by modern standards. I have no idea what your per capita income is but I imagine that you are not too high in comparison to Germany, Switzerland, and Scandinavia. Your military must be demoralized. You are putting people in prison for silly remarks on Facebook so you know that you have a police state. I doubt if you can say about your government what I say about it and avoid prison.

1.They come like armies, they assault the land
They pump down vast amounts of water, toxic chemicals & sand
To crack the rocks and win the prize
The shale gas they hope will see their profits rise.

2. They say it’s safe, nothing to fear
But it doesn’t take a fracking scientist to spot a bad idea
Just one small leak in the wells they sink
Will contaminate the water that we drink

3. Ask who will profit? Who pay the price?
This patch of earth they’re violating isn’t theirs to sacrifice.
Why can’t they see that it’s insane
To heat the planet, scar the earth for short term gain?

4. Earth’s buried treasures they take by force
And fracking uses so much water it depletes the water source
So now in Texas they’re asking why
The shale gas flows while the water taps run dry.

5. Let’s choose clean water, let’s choose clean air
Let’s choose a future that’s sustainable for everyone to share
Let’s choose clean energy sea, sun and wind
So we can keep those fossil fuels in the ground.

A protest song about & against fracking.
Words and music by Leon Rosselson. Earl Pickens contributed to the lyrics.

Well you get your gas and oil from the Middle East anyway so don't tell us you are concerned about North Dakota or that your poets know more than our engineers and geologists. I am waiting for the UK to stop using oil, gas and coal and wood and then they will be Zimbabwe. You will all freeze yourselves this winter if you use sea, sun and wind. Or at least you will be too cold to talk. If you were really worried, no doubt you would stop using computers.

While you take your step back into the stone age, your Muslim population will rise up against you and push you to the wall.

All that was under capitalism - state control of the British Empire.

We used the capital for the benefit of the people. Who or what else should we spend it on?

Welfare payments keep the money in the economy - people spend it on rent & food & clothing, etc. Tax concessions to the rich people & corporations take money from the economy.

London's sewage system copes with an ever-increasing number of people, & the Thames estuary is clean enough for fish & cetaceans.

The murder rate in London is being studied. It seems particularly that the recent capitalist austerity programme has meant resources for the young have been greatly reduced. School exclusions & lack of youth facilities, together with lack of job opportunities & expensive flats have all contributed. The increased services provided by socialism would offset this.

It's not just the UK attacking contributors to facebook. The whole "PC" mindset is seriously & increasingly antichristian.

The UK is putting dissidents in prison because they know that all you have in the way of weapons are kitchen knives. Germany taught the UK that disarming the public was the first step towards crowd control. Oh, yeah, more welfare is the solution to solving the crime problem in London, a city also short on sewers and so it uses the Thames River as a sewer. British police couldn't break up the London gangs even if they wanted to. If welfare is so good for the Brit economy, how come it is a second-class economy? You lost your entire auto industry to lack of innovation. Maybe you should raise taxes so that you can handle out more welfare through your low paid state employees. Actually, you could all stop working and all draw welfare and that would really put a lot of money in circulation just like in Cuba. Why don't you tell the "Windsors" to hand over their money to your welfare system? Our fast food employees probably make more money than your doctors and nurses. What is your unemployment rate during this recession that you are in? I can't wait to hear about your total conversion to solar panels and windmills for energy. That will cost you your last pound and you won't have enough power to keep your running water going. You will be using outdoor latrines and wearing blankets inside and using trash fires to cook your food.

You write offensive, ignorant rubbish.

We have solar panels on our roof - we use the energy & return the excess to the national grid. The electricity company pays us over £1700 for the electricity we supply, while charging about £600 for what we use for cooking & water heating, washing, etc. We have oil fired central heating which costs about £600 a year to run, so our roof panels pay us.

No, you continue to forget that you have a lower standard of living than Americans do. Your electricity must cost far more than mine does if you can make money off solar panels. The UK is a step down and your name calling does not bring you up to level. You actually say that giving people welfare is good for the economy and puts money into circulation. That is nuts. Some people work and some people do not. The ones who work are the ones who produce. All the writing in bold does not refute anything. You have never denied that your medical system is bad and that your health care workers are poorly paid. You have never denied that your crime rate in London is higher than New York. You do not deny that London has inadequate sewage, that the UK has been in the gun confiscation business for 200 years, that your prisons are inhumane, that you have high unemployment and that you no longer produce automobiles because you produced bad automobiles, etc., etc., etc. We beat your army at New Orleans 205 years ago or you would have tried to destroy us at that time. Your new imperialism is a big welfare state. That should lower your standard of living even more as time goes by.
