Response to Albert Mohler’s Nomination for SBC President

I couldn't believe the statement I read. Beth Moore should not even be preaching much less by in charge of the SBC. Does anyone else here believe it would be right and proper for Beth Moore, or any woman, to be in charge of a Denomination?

No, but what does Mohler have to say on the issue? You know, the guy you are championing?

Thar is McKissic he is a leftie. He is the one that said Mohler might be a good choice so long as he doesn't inhibit the current progressive move forward.

I think there is a legitimate debate about whether or not a woman is able to teach/speak in certain contexts outside of the church and without claiming elder/pastoral authority. Some of it can depend on the topic, etc.

Let me be clear-- I absolutely do not think a woman should be the SBC president because of the leadership role it requires.

But in terms of being willing to participate in certain events with people who might have a bit of a different view on this issue? I'm willing to give Mohler the benefit of the doubt.

Even if Beth Moore were a man, she'd be far from qualified.

Several years ago when I asked here:

"What would you do if a woman were nominated to serve as an officer in your Baptist convention/association?"

I was delighted when BB member Tom Butler [now in Heaven] wisely replied:

"If she's qualified, I vote for her in a heartbeat. Such offices are positions of service, not rule."

Conservatives ran Anita Bryant for SBC Vice President in 1978.

    From the SBC Annual:

"President Allen opened the floor for nominations for first vice-president. Gene Russell (Tex.) nominated Anita Bryant Green (Fla.)."

    http://media.sbhla.org.s3.amazonaws.com/4651,15-Jun-1978.PDF

"Bryant appeared before a standing-room-only crowd at the Southern Baptist Pastors' conference on Sunday night and received several rousing ovations. However, she was defeated in a bid to become first vice president"

    SBC Resolution Passed in 1964

"As in years past, our Convention has in this year been led by some of our ablest men and women. We are grateful to God for the dedicated leadership thus afforded us, and express our sincere appreciation to these leaders....We acknowledge with gratitude the leadership of Vice-Presidents Paul S. James and Mrs. R. L. Mathis. It is especially noteworthy that Mrs. Mathis is the first woman to serve as an officer of this Convention."

    From the 1964 Convention annual:

SBC President [K. Owen] White, who had Marie Mathis preside at the 1964 annual meeting, was a noted Conservative!

Capitol Hill Baptist Church has always been doctrinally conservative

9 Marks • History of Capitol Hill Baptist Church

"While American Protestantism struggled through the tumultuous theological battles of the 1920s and 30s, by the grace of God, this church remained a church in which the Bible was believed and preached as the inspired and inerrant Word of God....In 1941, Dr. Ball became Pastor Emeritus, and was succeeded for the next 9 years until 1950 by Dr. K. Owen White, a future President of the SBC."

1963 • SBC Messengers Choose Texas Conservative as President, Elect a Woman Vice-President

"K. Owen White, pastor of First Baptist Church, Houston, Tex., and leader of conservatives forces, [was elected] as Convention president"

"Mrs. R. L. Mathis...[was elected] as second vice·president of the Convention
Mrs. Mathis is the first woman ever elected to one of the top three Convention offices. At the next business session a messenger tried to push through a motion to exclude women from consideration as officers but it lost."
